Illustration: iToyi-Toyi, vest design
iToyi-Toyi is a clothe label inspired by original Zulu print vest e.g. leopard prints. Traditional it is an iconic item of clothing which is a trend amongst “Ma’skandi” musicians and fast becoming a fashion statement, showing a sense of culture amongst the urban youth.
Therefore taking this iconic item as a meduim of communication to express grievances of South Africans in a fashionable way yet provocative. This sets iToyi-Toyi as voice that stands for pride, social commentary on social issues such as race, corruption etc.

Brief: To design new Steers packaging that fitted with its brand positioning “it’s that good”
Solution: Considering that each and every individual have a highlight or a lowlight story toshare about their busy life style made an interesting idea to explore. Therefore making Steers a highlight we came up with different stories expressed
through single line doodlies of momentsin a day. Through simple speech bubbles and using negative and positive of axis conveyinghighlightsand lowlights, Steers being on the positive of axis expressing Steers being “that good”

Illustrations: Silverstar Casino & Goldfish Compilation CD Directional Map
Brief: Client required an Interesting CD cover that communicated a Collabaration of Siverstar Casino and Goldfish at the sametime will be a directional map to Silverstar Casino.
Solution: Using Silverstar Casino’s lidentity of the circular stars. I created a starry sky using these circuls and combined it with a forground represented by a wave like graphic representing the sea and in it a goldfish.
The retro look treatement of the goldfish being the type of music Goldfish makes.

Illustration/Packaging Design: Packaging Design
Brief: To create a name and a range of metal protection packaging
Solution: We then came up with Metallo as the name which we felt it rhymed easily, catchy, easy to pronounce and remember. Considering we wanted a simple conceptual solution, we selected a muscular bold font.
Our next challenge was communicating the different products under Metallo, using a simple graphic solution we extended the “L” letters of Metallo to form different metal substrates that differentiated the products.
And introduced big coloured 1, 2, 3 system to assist consumers as steps to follow.

Illustrations/Logo Design: Mmino Live Jazz Festival Logo
Brief: Mmino is an organisation that promotes indigenous music which required a logo for their Live Jazz events
Solution:Client provided a photographic reference which she felt captured the essence of the events. Using a simple vector silhouette and hand written wording “MMINO LIVE” i recreated the photographic image.
Then brought in vibrate colours on the hands to emphasis the hands being a magical element in creating music.
Other Elements: Launch Pull-up Banners where created to reveal the logo. So i incoporated an indigenouse music instrument as a back drop to re-inforce MMINO LIVE being about celebrating african music instruments.

Illustrations: Flux Trends Review Conference 2007
Brief: To create a Theme/Visual language that expressed “information refined” for the Flux Trends Review 2007
Solution: Looking at objects or things that are used to edit form, content or solution. I refernced house hold objects like utensiles to illustrate the idea of information edited and refined. I created a graphic grinder with hand
written type being filted through. Each word communicates a specific idea and industry being relevent to the conference topics. Other Elements: The final illustration was used for as the cover of the booklet.
A interactive A1 poster involved people to tear offthe most important part of the poster which had details of the conference. Again carring through the idea of infornation refined.

I started drawing at an early age for the love! of it, only realized it’s potential at grade 12 (Metric) when I wanted something I can really do as a career. 10 years later YES! I am still doing pretty pictures (that’s what most people would like to think I do). 5 years of Graphic design and visual communication studies and this is my 5th year as a designer/illustrator in the Design and Advertising industry.
