Said "July was full of teaching outdoors. I was asked by NICHES Land Trust to be the Artist in Residence for 4 workshops at two State Parks, and help lead art adventures for 11-14 year olds at the first ever NICHES Art and Nature Camp on Wildcat Creek. The Creek and the shaded wilderness of this wildlife corridor were wonderful. We sketched, painted and exhibited work full of surprises. I hope your summer wonders are celebrated artfully!"

Said "Now that it's spring, I'm working now on a windy view the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. After more wind on waves, I'll add a couple holding hands, and a group gathered far below on the beach. I enjoy painting people having a special moment. In January it was great to be touching up the lobby skies I painted for the Copley Plaza Hotel, 28 years ago. What a great year!"

Said "I've been busy painting six big murals in Indianapolis. Over 35 characters express the theme international health and happiness. They are on Guion Road at 38th Street near Community Westview Hospital. Volunteers helped transformed ugly grey walls into something bright and beautiful. This cold snap (15-20 degrees below normal) means finishing next spring. Now, indoor murals and portraits for winter."

Thanks Tracy! I've been busy with new steel sculpture projects. What fun to have the inspirations of Calder and Picasso. These will be around a century from now. I love the ways they change as I move. No pics yet ...

Said "Spring brings me out to plan and paint murals. I'll be on the road to visit prospective clients at a high school, restaurant and perhaps a healthcare facility. I'm also teaching modern painting and clay sculpture at the Red Poppy Studios & Gallery, assisting at a birthday-art-party, and private lessons as time permits. Today though, a day at the dunes!"

Said "Ms. Miller read your message on my page. Your art is awesome but do you do animation? Carmelita Clark" to Sunny Miller

Carmelita, I taught clay work for about a decade, and I've been paid to design and construct sets for two plays, and I've taken three university level video courses. I can do clay-mation for 3-D effects. 2-D is quicker. I simply set up the camera over a table, with the HD video camera on a sturdy tripod. The scene and the characters move and change frame to frame, according to the storyboard. No pet is allowed in the room, windows must be closed and fans off. Then my eye for dramatic, meaningful expression and fluid, dramatic line takes off. The quality of the story board determines the angle of view, close-up, wide-shot for establishing location and determines all story-telling, pacing and surprise. What style of animation are you thinking?

Said "I've been hiking in the woods. Prophet's Rock was inspiring, as late sun came low through big, old trees. Buds and leaves were small enough to reveal all the twists and turns of a natural forest, so different from groomed city trees. The trail left from near the Tippecanoe Battlefield, crossed Burnett's Creek, and quietly wound up the hills. Red trillium are out. Those trees, streaks of sunlight and long shadows will be subjects of future works. Now back to the computer and public art applications."

Said "I've nearly finished a portrait of WEB DuBois as a young man. I put him in spring, to suggest his hopes and ambitions. The forsythia is blooming behind him. In the background two small figures work, passing on the street. One carries a laundry basket. The other drives a horse and cart."

Ah, the beauty of art! It does wonders for those otherwise tossed aside photos...not to mention what it does for the soul! You did a fabulous job on him, so realistic!

Gerri wanted to add space to the entry at her Daycare. She had been wanting a mural for years, and this is what our shared visions created in Baltimore. Thank you, Gerri!

This gardener is digging into urban rubble to create a beautiful garden. This is one of many details adding meaning to the "Community Unity" Mural for Baltimore at South Monroe Street and Wilkins Avenue. You can see it when northbound on Route 1.

The Carrollton Ridge Neighborhood Association selected my proposal as the best to fulfill their wish for "Community Unity." Shaw James of the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts provided wonderful support and supervision. He was visiting and on the 3-story scaffolding when we had the earthquake. That was exciting. In this photo you have to look closely to see me on the ladder for finishing touches. Thanks to Mavi for the ladder! What wonderful neighbors. So many people stopped to express their approval.

Any tips on landing that first hotel mural?
Sunny Miller - Over 30 days ago
Thirty years ago I did my first exterior mural for a low bid. I earned about $3 per hour. That starts to build a portfolio, In Boston I was lucky enough to arrive in a boom period, and I did my first 'sketch' on top-notch, heavy rag paper for a developer advertising his need for a mural on an ugly wall. I paid attention to the best architecture he had on the front and other details similar to architecture nearby. He took care of the rolling staging, an I bought a VW van for ~$900 to sleep in. That was my start in Boston. Living modestly has been a requirement ever since deciding to use my skills the ways I want, rather than go for a salary I could have had, if I'd been raised with the expectation that I was a professional. Instead, my relatives believe ALL my talents are all God-given; they don't see my life-long labors of love. Now I strive to let my wealth be my health, and the chips fall where they may. Of course blessings are all around us, beside the pitfalls. Best of luck, Ceci.

About Me:
I have the skills to illustrate any topic. I've painted murals in Boston, Baltimore, Sarasota, Indianapolis, including several for major hotels in Boston, including the Boston Park Plaza, Fairmont Copley Plaza and Copley Square Hotel. My website shows work appropriate for those clients, but your mural or other art job will be designed to suit you!
I also do portraits, paintings on canvas and steel sculpture. I'm available for your holiday party at $100 per hour plus travel. I've worked extensively with clay and other sculptural materials. Did a bit of work in bronze. See my website for samples and great references!
