Title: Aurora Young Adult Book Cover concept. This is a personal piece I painted to develop my portfolio more towards book covers. The inspiration for this piece was a mixture of Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) and the scene in The Neverending Story where Atreyu has to face the Oracle.

Regardless of age there’s nothing quite like spending time in the company of your best friend, even more so during those young years where you form especially strong friendships. One of my favourite memories from my early teenage years were going camping and having such a good time. __________ This illustration was done as a sample for a wrap-around Middle Grade book cover.

In 1890 stories of a mythical being looking as a cross between giraffe, zebra and a donkey reached Britain, the stories were dismissed as mere fantasy like the tales of the centaur, but in 1901 Sir Harry Johnston set out to find this creature of so called legend. He successfully obtained a skin and skulls from an okapi and thus proved the creature’s existence, the animal was named Okapi Johnsoni after the explorer and thus the legend of the African Unicorn was put to rest. Little did Mr. Johnston know the mythical being still wandered the Savannah.
