These pieces are from a commercial proposal by Liverpool fashion boutique Encore to clothing brand Paul Smith, as Encore seeks to secure official Paul Smith outlet status. In order to convince Paul Smith that Encore shares its brand values of creativity and exclusivity, the design solution goes all-out to convey a unique identity and a passion for style. Appropriate use of the Paul Smith identity is combined with lifestyle imagery showing an understanding of the target audience, with additional graphic elements representing the Encore take on the brand. Appearing nationally in retail chains all:sports and JJB Sports, this piece supports the launch of a new Mitre football boot, notable for a particular feature, the “speedstud”, designed to offer players better grip and less resistance. The ability of Mitre-wearing players to keep “one step ahead” of the opposition is the basis of the design concept, which uses disjointed and slanted typography to convey pace and movement. With the London Olympics in 2012, part of the city’s transport system is undergoing a major upgrade in order to cope with the vast number of additional visitors. To make people aware of this, Transport for London commissioned a series of adverts focusing on upgrade work carried out on one of the lines – the DLR. The adverts convey two messages; the line is being extended and trains will be enhanced from two to three carriages. Strong, vibrant colours and simple shapes are used to reflect objects associated with underground trains, e.g. wheels, seats, even the carriages themselves. The Royal Society commissioned this project to advertise an inspiring and unique collection of photographs and letters sent by Captain Robert Scott and his team whilst they were one of their legendary expeditions. A raw and gritty photographic style is used throughout the materials, which include a brochure and exhibition panels, to reflect the challenge of the journey and exposure to the elements the team must have endured. The Thames Tower is a modern, fashionable, 28-flat apartment building in Leicester, UK. Our brief was to create a stylish, feature-packed brochure to garner interest and draw young, first-time buyers to the properties. The key design elements echoed the main attractions of the building – the wave shape paid homage to its close proximity to the river, and the sharp, vertical lines reflected the structure’s modern architecture and imposing height.
