Croatian Istria: The Quest for Perfection The dust thrown up by the ageing Toma Vinkovic tractor stung Zoran's eyes as he strained to see the devastation caused by the ploughing. Three-quarters of his precious vines ploughed under. The plants which produced the grapes for the family's wine destroyed. With so few vines remaining, there will be no surplus to exchange for little luxuries this year.

Christmas Day 1884: The Day Andalucía Shook Christmas day 1884 began like all Christmas days, slowly. Most of the population of Andalucía were recovering from the excesses of the night before. The traditional Nochebuena feast of seasonal Sea Bream and roast Lamb had taken its toll. Liberal quantities of champanada cider and local wines had also helped the festivities. While anise flavoured polvorones, mazapanes, and almond-honey turrones sated the sweet tooth.

Córdoba to Granada: The route of the Caliphs I had a choice, either damage myself or the car. The car was on hire and therefore my responsibility, whereas I had travel insurance. I avoided the potholes and drove on the compacted rocks which formed the road's centre. This set up a terrific vibration which loosened my dental fillings. I tried to check them in the rear-view-mirror which was oscillating through 360’. Catapulted Stones from the wheels of passing vehicles were modifying the car's body-work. I had a head-ache! I was sure the whole thing would disintegrate leaving me sat on the bare chassis grimly clutching the steering wheel.

El Tempranillo: The King of the Sierra Morena All countries have their scallywags, men and women who prefer to live outside the law. They exist on their wits in a hostile and lonely environment, not unlike marriage perhaps but still a desperate place. The outlaws' life has brought fame to some, infamy to others but very short careers usually with a bloody end to most.

About Me:
I live in Suffolk (Kessingland) and Andalucía. Although a British subject I was brought up in Australia and New Zealand. I have worked in Southern Africa and Saudi Arabia as well as some light soldiering in the British Army serving in Germany. I write freelance for many international and domestic magazines including several English Speaking Spanish periodicals. I also take my own photographs. With a special interest in the Spanish Civil War, I have shed new light on the controversial Fallen Soldier photograph made by Robert Capa in 1936.

I am a qualified photographer and have a diploma in freelance journalism. I have also studied archaeology with the University of Exeter and University College London.
