I’m a writer, and I’m looking for an artist to collaborate with on a fairly ambitious project.

I’ve written a graphic novel. Here is the logline:

“The collective greed of the world’s governments has led them to enter into a bargain with an alien race. A bargain that leads to the extinction of humanity. Now, with the world at stake, an unlikely pack of animals must fight together to take back the planet.”

My goal with this posting is to find an artist who can make the project unique, engaging, and stylish. This will be a paid project, and I would never ask for an artist’s cooperation on such a project if I didn’t think I would be able to fairly compensate them for their time and talent.

My plan is as follows:

* Review artist submissions to find a style, budget, and collaborative energy with which we are both comfortable.
* Commission artist to sketch several storyboards. Details can be discussed upon further review of the project.
* Using those storyboards, along with excerpts of the novel draft, launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund the following:
* Artist fee (to be decided upon before launching)
* Production (cost to produce physical copies)
* Promotion (miscellaneous promotional efforts, such as a website, Wizard
* World/Comic Con promotion, social media, etc.)

A little about me: I’m 39 years old, and am currently a teacher. My previous career was as a writer, editor, creative director, and content creator for some of the world’s most well known companies and brands - WWE, ESPN, Disney, Maxim, Starbucks, Pepsi, Mt. Dew, etc. I’ve worked in the publishing marketplace for more than a decade and - while, of course, I can’t guarantee anything - I have many friends and contacts in that space who are aware of this project, and interested in championing its success.

I’m looking for an artist in Cleveland, because I believe that face-to-face collaboration is the ideal route for such a project. I want to find someone who can take what I’ve written, and make it better through their unique style and artistic talent.

Regarding payment, as a freelance journalist myself, I realize that I can’t expect Jim Lee art for Fiverr prices. That said, I’m hoping to find an eager artist who is:
- passionate about the project
- talented, with an artistic style that matches the vibe and content of this story
- available for an agreed upon rate (flat rate, percentage of eventual sales, or a
combination of the two - I’m very open to discussing)
- looking to expand his/her/their portfolio with the addition of a truly unique piece

In closing, this graphic novel is a story I’ve written with emotion, dedication, and the belief that it can ultimately become something awesome. I’ve collaborated with hundreds of artists over the course of my career, but never through anything this aspirational or personal. That said, if the idea of animals thrashing through alien hordes and taking back the planet humans stole from them appeals to you as a comic fan and an artist, I’d love to chat.
