That's awesome. Romance is a solid topic to write about because it's something that the majority -especially the mainstream readers- can relate to. I'm currently 15 poems into my new project.

Cheers

Great, keep on tapping down those thoughts!! Made it to 4800 word count now. LOL seems like after the first 20 thousand it sails. Thanks for the encouragement.

I just opened up the manuscript, but I don't have a lot of time because I have to leave in 20 mis, however, that is a hell of an introduction and I look forward to reading it. You had me at 'bourbon' lol. have a good one, Tosh,
Author/Illustrator, Tosh Baker - Over 30 days ago
Thanks Jesse, I must say after getting the characters and plot in order in the first chapter, it sails with havoc.

Also, keep in mind that was my first try...and I have realized that I do need to go back through Methodical Logic of a Madman and nix all the "he saids and such" in the book. After I am done with this new one.
Jesse Friesen - Over 30 days ago
yea it's all good. i had to do a lot of editing before i was satisfied with how it turned out, and that's only poetry! i can't imagine the hassle of editing a book- but it's all part of the game.

thank you for the kind words. i am glad that you enjoy my writing, but as you know, the publishing world is a tough place to get noticed, especially if you write provocative, rude, poetry like i did in my current voloume lol. but i'm not too worried about it because there's great work being published in the underground scene right now, and i'm just glad that there is a place for the derogatory poetry of gutter punks instead of only the mainstream **** of clean-cut university professors keeping life on a leash.

and no problem. your artwork is brilliant.
Author/Illustrator, Tosh Baker - Over 30 days ago
I'm glad you have found a source for your writings...and when we write it's what we feel...they are our inner most feelings... you're right the publishing field is very tough and a little uptight with a bit of righteous mixed in lol....I am working on another book now as I speak... and wonder why would I try to even put myself through this again with all the submissions and 'No's" I would love to find a underground publisher lol for my work...I would be writing all the time. I would also like to get a chance to read your book of provocative, rude, poetry lol. And if your interested Jesse, I would be glad to shoot a pdf of my manuscript your way some day if you find interest in a fictional Psychological thriller maybe you could give me ur honest critique. It's apx 72000 word count. But now up at 330 am this morning can't sleep with all the thoughts of new book rolling through my thoughts. If you're interested in checking out my book you can drop me a email at bakdar007@yahoo.com that way I'll know where to email the manuscript. Peace, Tosh
Jesse Friesen - Over 30 days ago
you should check out all the writers who got rejection letters in their career. marcel proust, one of the most renound authors of all time, had to publish his own book. C.S. Lewis received something like a few thousand rejection letters before he published anything... J.K. Rowling only was published because the daughter of a publisher read the manuscript and begged her father to publish Harry Potter" Rudyard Kipling was told that he didn't have any idea how to use the English language, The Great Gatsby was rejected, as was Carrie by Stephen King, Lord of the Flies, Animal Farm, Catch 22, and also Ulysses.
I was researching this for myself because I wanted to see if any great writers were ever rejected, and it turns out they were. So don't give up.

I'd be interested to read it. I'm not sure how quickly I would be able to finish it because of my own writing and reading endeavors, but I'll do my best.

Thank you Jesse, that means a lot. Wow, very informative and uplifting at the same time. I really needed that boost. But stubborn is my nickname, ha. I will keep on, keeping on. I understand your position in having little time. It's hard for me to get involved in a book until I am done bleeding the thoughts into mine. I'm hoping to be done with this one by March 1st set as my personal goal. I will email you a copy of it and as you said don't feel obligated or pressed, the words will stay on the paper for an eternity lol. Hoping to read your work as well.
Jesse Friesen - Over 30 days ago
No prob, it helps me when I am deleting all the rejection letters on my computer lol. Yea March 1st is a very achievable goal.

I will send you my manuscript as well, but probably not until later tonight.

Thanks Jesse, I will look forward to it. 3 days in now lol and up too a 7000 word count. I rarely watch TV so it will be nice to read your manuscript before bed times. Ha...I have locked myself away like a mad scientist tapping away for the perfect formula. Have a great evening. ;o)

Congrats on your accomplishment Jesse ;o) I have recently completed my fictional manuscript as well. Haha I know all to well about the rejections, I take it you to go through a Literary Agents without self-publishing. I chose to search out a Lit Agent as well...and I know what you mean by rejection ha. But we have to hang in there because we know it only takes 1 right to like our work. Peace Jesse ;o)
Jesse Friesen - Over 30 days ago
No I don't have a lit agent because the majority of them won't even look at a poetry manuscript, if it's fiction/non fiction they take it seriously. As you know, many publishers don't accept unsolicited manuscripts, but I know that there are several 'underground' publishers of poetry that do. I'm alright with that though, writing is more just a hobby for me anyway, so if I don't get published it's all good with me. All the best to you, Tosh, with your literary pursuits, I hope that your manuscript makes it, and thanks for checking out my portfolio.

Thank you so much Jesse!! I've read it and it is absolutely amazing!!! I can't wait to have an actual copy in my hand. Great job!!! I feel you Jesse, every word, every topic, I get it, I relate to it, and most of all, I appreciate it. Your writing is excellent and I hope you never stop creating your great poetry! o:)
Jesse Friesen - Over 30 days ago
my grammar was so awful that I had to re-read the manuscript a hundred times, and tried my best to add semicolons, colons, and all that **** I never payed any attention to because I was too busy skipping school. I had to read about those rules on the internet, and I still don't think I used them correctly lol...I also ended up taking out certain stanzas, writing something else in their place, or just adding on. Many of the poems I have already posted on here have turned out very differently in my finalized copy (including the copy's I sent you) It's been a hell of a ride mainly because my grammar is so awful.

I'm glad you enjoyed those copy's, because they were nothing but a giant headache for me lol... but after reviewing everything- adding, taking out, deleting stanzas, editing grammar (or rather, tried to edit)- I have finally managed to come to an agreement with myself.
Tamara-Lynn Palmquist - Over 30 days ago
Oh Jesse, I bought "English Grammar for Dummies" years ago, and I still don't take the time to read a whole lot of it. Good grammar does not make or determine a good writer, that's what editors are for lol I understand that you're doing it yourself, so do I and I'm sure that you've noticed all of my grammar mistakes. It's no biggie. That doesn't take away from good writing, ever. Believe it or not, I've spent many years teaching English to immigrants in my spare time. I am currently teaching a couple Serbians. I learn as I go too, because when they need or want an explanation for certain reasoning for how we write or say stuff, I find myself puzzled once in awhile. A lot of things we do are habit, some right, some wrong, but considering what I'm sure you've noticed on facebook or even text, we do pretty damn good with our English Jesse! It's becoming a lost art, and as long as we keep putting in an effort to learn it better, we'll only GET better. If we were to focus on how to be better with all of the abbreviations like most people are now a days, we'd only get better at slaughtering our own language. Lol. Don't be so hard on yourself! Reminds me of the other day, my buddy text me to say, "I lv chix *******." I'm all, "Well that's nice.." Haha, turns out he had some in the oven, so then I realized his "chix" abbreviation was for chicken, not chicks hahahaha Trust me, you're doing just fine!!! :P
Jesse Friesen - Over 30 days ago
Yes, if we compare ourselves with the majority of people who don't give a **** about writing, then we are doing good! lol. I know they have editors, and I have also heard that some authors were notorious for having terribly written manuscripts -as far as grammar is concerned- but I wanted to do the best I could since this is my first book I am ever sending off to publishers. I've been a bit hyper sensitive to the whole thing because it's like my first time all over again ha. Ahh, that similie probably isn't as humorous as I'd like to think it is. But I agree with you that the content is what really matters, and if the content is 'good' enough then they will have their own editors working on it to get it published. Like I said, thank the whatever that I am only 25. There's lots of time to keep making mistakes. Thanks for that response, you always have such encouraging advice!
Tamara-Lynn Palmquist - Over 30 days ago
Lol, it was funny :P Yes, I hear you, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to do your best with it either. Strengthening your grammar certainly won't hurt your writing, it just isn't necessary for making your writing magnificent, which it is. o:) I remember when I first started sending out manuscripts.. Wow, I'd check that mail box everyday, and I would literally be deflated when there was nothing in there from any of them. The first time I was published, I didn't even know. My ex came into the house with a paper and asked me if I had sent something in to them. I said, "Yes, but just a few days ago." It was in there! I did a little dance, I was just so happy. Haha. I have a folder with the replies I've collected over the years, as well as copies of magazines and papers I'm in. This one lady I conversed with multiple times. It saddens me that there are very few places to actually send your manuscripts by mail anymore. Almost everything is through email. I tell ya, nothing makes me happier then receiving an actual letter in the mail, especially when it's written in pen. Haha, easy to please I suppose! :P
Jesse Friesen - Over 30 days ago
that's awesome you have been published. i have had nothing but rejections. gutterlesque, a completely non-profit, online magazine, said that my writing is 'not bad', but they didn't like what i sent them so they requested something else. then there are a few magazines that also refused my work in the past. the closest i got was when i was thirteen and i made it to the quarterfinals in a poetry competition. maybe i wrote better back then! ha. not a big deal, because the jitters of wondering if i get accept or not are all but gone- it's become much easier for me to keep dealing with all the rejection. i enjoy the format of online submissions because it doesn't cost me any money and speeds up the process of "Dear author, unfortunately we can't publish any of work" lol. if i could just stop writing i would, but i can't, so they will have to keep enduring my work.

Thank you for the Kudos and writing on my wall. I have written way more poetry that is not overly complicated but I wanted to experiment with a style that I found was quite difficult to replicate, however, the book I am currently working on is not like the earlier work that I posted on this web site and fairly easy to understand, even if English is your second language.
