"Farmhouse Hospitality" shows life sometimes gives you the best subject matter. This photo was found in Reminisce magazine and I still can't believe it happened! This is my rendering of the photo and is a 12" x 9" graphite drawing. NFS

"Prairie Punchers" represent the unsung heroes that helped settle the Midwest and Great Plains. The horses depicted here are Suffolk Punch, which are a bit smaller and stouter in proportion to the Belgian draft horse. This a 18" x 13" graphite and colored pencil drawing on tinted paper.

"The Medicine Man" was my first graphite drawing of a face since school days. Indian culture has its own fascinating elements and I took Edward Curtis' photo of a Blackfoot Indian and added figures of a bison and a depiction of the Eagle Dance to represent a bit of their sacred culture. "The Ethiopian Woman" shows that the human face makes the most interesting study. A life's story can be found in the weathered and wrinkled textures of each face. Was she dreaming of what she was or could have been? Graphite is the perfect medium to emphasize texture. Private collection
