I was programmed by the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to write immaculate research papers. I'd say that it certainty helped and hurt me with my writing abilities because when I took creative writing during my last semester, I'll admit that I struggled quite a bit. I wrote short stories in the form of stereo instructions. Being a sociology major, I had lost my creative niche and based everything off facts. Indeed, it was nice to be able to spout out facts at social functions and my research papers inevitably rocked, but people were more interested in my presentation. I was the funny guy. I could turn the dullest and most tragic situations into light hearted hilarity and it was first brought to my attention by a friend reading my blog. This blog was my amusing outlet from the pressures of college. I had once gone into sheer detail in regards to how it finally dawned on me that I was going to inevitably fail my psych 101 exam. I wish I still had access to such blog, but it eventually disappeared due to inactivity. After graduation, I took a class in comedy. I went with the hopes of doing stand up one day but I also loved to write. I can express hilarity through my words and actions. If anyone would give me an idea, I can take it and run with it. Time is of essence and I don't need very much of it.

It has truly been a pleasure to work with Curtis as my colleague and manager." — Sarah Heier, Senior Admissions Advisor, DeVry University, worked indirectly for Curtis at DeVry University "Exceptional leader, Educator and Mentor. Curtis helped me to develope my skills as a leader and educator while at Sanford Brown he was an excellent person to work with and he taught me alot. Now as the Associate Academic Dean at Concorde Career College I was able to put those skills that he taught me about leadership, and striving to be the best into action. He was an outstanding Director at Sanford Brown and I am glad to give him this recommendation." — Troy Best, Adjunct Professor Onground/online, Various Colleges, reported to Curtis at Sanford Brown College "Curtis is a detail oriented leader who has the ability to watch the bottom line without losing sight of whats important. He builds trust and relationships with those around him and makes decisions that will drive production over the long haul. Curtis runs a tight ship, but he knows how to have fun and build a tightly knit high performing team in a very short amount of time." — Brad Trnavsky, MBA, Director of Admissions, DeVry University, reported to Curtis at DeVry University "Curtis was well-known in the Academy as an excellent, caring instructor. He consistently went above expectations and maintained effective, upstanding relationships with students and colleagues alike." — William Kruppa, Mathematics Teacher, Brooke Weston CTC, worked with Curtis at Brooke Weston Academy "Curtis Smith gave me the opportunity to become a program chair for Kaplan College. Within 4 months I was promoted to Director of Education. Curtis was the person that made the campus very successful when it came to retaining students, increased attendance, and selecting quality instructors. With Curtis' initial leadership and guidence, the campus remained on course with great retention of students after his departure. Curtis has a huge passion for education and it shows." — Kurt Ikemeier, Criminal Justice Department Chair, Kaplan College, reported to Curtis at Kaplan College "Curtis is a highly dedicated educator who pays special attention to changes in curriculum in order to provide the highest level of education. He is an adventurous man who constantly seeks out opportunities for fun learning experiences. In my years of studying under and working with Curtis I have seen him do many great things, among them: starting and running Camp Latieze, a science camp for California students taught by high school students under the guidance of Curtis and his wife; pioneer a "science club" at a California high school to foster science education; and take high school students on trips to Catalina Island science camps to learn and just have a good time. He is encouraging, optimistic, and easy to get along with. Being fun and easy to talk to is a valuable asset to any educator, and Curtis is certainly top-notch in both traits. Curtis sees his students' potential and always strives to help them meet it. When I was in Curtis's class I was honored to have been nominated by him to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. He took the time to see my potential as a leader and went out of his way to encourage me. I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with Curtis, and to learn from him. In my many years of school, he remains my most influential teacher." — Tara Larcade, Student, University of California, Davis, was with another company when working with Curtis at California State Public Schools "Curtis is an extremely hard working, student-oriented, innovative educator who always strives to do his best in every situation in which he works. I have no hesitation in recommending Curtis and would gladly hire him should a suitable position arise within any organization with which I was working.”" — Mishele Newkirk-Smith, Science Instructor/Department Coach, Insight Schools, managed Curtis at California State Public Schools "I have known Curtis for many years. He is the hardest working, most dependable person I have ever met. While in the Navy, Curtis was frequently recognized for his outstanding character, work ethic, military bearing, and intellect. After serving in the Navy, Curtis focused his talents towards education of others. He has a natural ability to inspire those around him to achieve their goals. Curtis is able to see an individual's potential and help them become more than they realized possible. Curtis can and will be a great success in any endeavor he undertakes." — Obie Powell, LCDR, US Navy, worked directly with Curtis at US Navy Contact Curtis on LinkedIn

After receiving my BFA at Massachusetts College of Art as a painting major, I continued courses in illustration at RISD the following January through June. My most recent full time employer was William Beyer Associates on Newbury Street in Boston. That was in1980/81, and I’ve been doing full time freelance illustration ever since. From 1981 to today, I’ve created work in all fields associated with illustration: editorial, advertising, corporate, and publishing. In both children and adult venues. Books, magazines, ads, brochures, greeting cards, board games, etc. Employing directories of Illustration, through the years I’ve been able to market myself literally everywhere those books are distributed, which has allowed my business to enjoy continued growth. I’ve focused my style into mostly a pen and ink /watercolor combination. Us-ing a dip pen, I look for that spot between cartoon and representational, not too styl-ized, trendy or gimmicky but alive, sophisticated and fresh. I’m always aware of the economy and the flair of the line, and try to spotlight that. After inking, things really come alive with the application of watercolor, whether traditional brush or electronic stylus-on-tablet. I find myself often drawing all kinds of people in all kinds of situations. I enjoy employing the aerial viewpoint as well and have been called to work in that mode in varying degrees on many occasions. I have done fun and funky aerial views of Boston for Hilton Hotels, the rocky coast of Bermuda for the Wyndham Bermuda Resort, the Hills of Southern Connecticut for Quinnipiac University, Western North Carolina, and Hollywood California to name a few. One thing I can say -at the completion of every project, the client is always quite pleased, as am I. Please check out my website. Thanks.
