From 1992 to 1994 Matt Cav worked as a staff writer for the Vinton Messenger, a bi-weekly newspaper based in southwestern Virginia. In 2002, Mr. Cav received a grant from the North Carolina Writers Network for his novella, "Mad Season," and Mr. Cav relocated to New York City.
