Accident investigator and Safety Auditor Refurbishment of industrial units manufacturing sugar including service tunnels and propriety buildings. Tate & Lyle plc. Operates as a renewable food and industrial ingredients company. The company’s manufacturing plant turn agricultural products, and cane sugar, into valuable ingredients for its customers. Work involved refurbishment all process units throughout the London plant. Initially instigated after a safety report authored by myself indicated several areas of failure which urgently needed to be rectified, for safety purposes. UCLH - London Utilities (Tunnel\ Utilities) EC Harris CDMC Relocation of all utilities along the various roads associated with University Hospital’s new building scheme. These utilities were located within the highway and protruded into the new footprint of the cancer care trusts new building. this also aided in the construction safety due to the relocation of services which could be hit by the piling rigs. This included 2000mm bored tunnel to link all the university buildings together for the purposes of laying and maintaining utilities. EC Harris UCLH Cancer building – Team Leader The brand new purpose-built University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre hosts outpatient and day care cancer services, a dedicated teenage and young adult cancer service, and a private patients’ floor run by HCA International. This five storey building which has been designed with the needs of the patients, and modern cancer care in mind, with lots of natural light, open spaces and a rooftop garden that everyone is welcome to use. To ensure that the building is truly patient-focused, patients have been involved in both the design of the building and how the services operate within it. Hematology (diseases of the blood) services for cancer and non-cancer conditions were provided on the fourth floor of the Cancer Centre. This is because different hematological conditions require similar expertise and equipment, so it made sense for UCLH to provide services to both type of patients within the same unit. This model of care is replicated at other centers. The Centre is equipped with the very latest technology to help diagnose and treat cancer more effectively. Patients will benefit from the latest advances in imaging, with the arrival of the UK’s first PET MR scanner providing detailed images with less radiation exposure. It is likely that this state-of-the-art technology will be used to treat other diseases (such as neurological conditions) and for research purposes. A large part of the contract involved the relocation of vast banks of services which crisscrossed the site, including gas, data and other telecommunication equipment. Peter also has a larger history of working with various trusts such as Medway Maritime, St Mary’s London, St Thomas Hospital, and Westminster Hospital amongst others. Birmingham Children’s Hospital Designated a Hospital as a failing after NHS inspect, based upon lack of structural and integrated systems failures. The position was to ensure full compliance with NHS procedures and to ensure fire &general safety of staff, visitors and occupants of the Hospital which includes the largest baby care ward in the country. Performed various tasks, including gathering, reviewing, and approving area assessment reports, corrective action plans, and site surveys assuring compliance with applicable HSE, NHS and regulatory guidance. • Conducted visits to each of the nine sites and oversaw the realisation of BCH vision through commitment and employee ownership in collaboration with safety committees. • Administered the development and implementation of risk assessment methods and systems in anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards. • Coordinated with project and site leadership to create and achieve short- and long-term EHS objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritized and mitigated risks. • Provided support to the business acquisition and operation activities as well as shared services. • Worked in collaboration with senior leadership and contract administrators in planning construction, operation, and maintenance projects. • Successfully created and carried out programs that surpassed the compliance requirements outlined in NHS guidelines, corporate directives, and industry’s best management practices. Inclusive of substation installation and Network Rail, Hitachi infrastructure. This project included all access roadways to adoptive standards. Grosvenor House Hotel Fire engineering Inspection of all hotel fire safety procedures and plant interfaces to ensure fire safety within this flag ship hotel. We advised the American arm of the company to ensure that the hotel was brought up to standard and influence the in place management on the necessity of the advice being carried out. To reduce the risk of injury and promote job safety, many organisations we have to establish safety policies. We produced a study and gap audit to establish the areas of need and included a trend survey to indicate risk value. This study examined the presumed benefits of safety policies and the roles of two organizational variables (supervisor safety support and employee safety control) on safety outcomes and satisfaction with the company. Results showed that quality of the execution of corporate safety policies, supervisor safety support, and employee safety control play critical roles in predicting both injury incidence and satisfaction with the company. These findings highlight the importance of integrating both organisational safety policies and relevant organisational constructs to improve corperatel safety. Bluebell Hill Rail tunnel The moment will mark a milestone in construction of the 3.2km tunnel - the UK's first high-speed rail tunnel - over 100m below Bluebell Hill at the central point in the tunnel. The 13m wide, 10m high single bore tunnel which starts from Boxley Valley north of Maidstone and emerges alongside the M2 south of Chatham is being constructed with a sprayed concrete lining similar to that used on the troubled Heathrow Express project. Network Rail Southeastern Line Ore Tunnel Repairs CDMC The work is taking place to improve the drainage and repair the lining inside to prevent water seepage. At the same time other work including upgrading points and signals to improve reliability, and the maintenance of bridges and tracks that could lead to higher line speeds will also be taking place. This work requires the closure of the line between Hastings and Ashford. Heathrow Airport Tunnels Refurbishment - CDMC The cargo tunnel is bi-directional; it has one bore, carrying one lane in each direction. Sewage Plant Colchester, Essex - CDMC Design began in 2010 Anglian Water treated the wastewater from an equivalent residential population of six million. This resulted in the plant at Colchester needing an upgrade to improve their capacity: a grand total of nine glass-fused-to-steel tanks were designed, manufactured and constructed by an in-house team, all complete with GFS and GRP roofs. The project also included one 1,580m³ BIODOME® double membrane gas holder and access steelwork with a 12m high staircase leading to a 22m long walkway providing access to the roofs of four HPH tanks. The sewerage treatment works is now capable of handling the high level of sludge piped directly to the site and also sludge brought in from other facilities in the area. Thanks to the anaerobic digestion process now in place the plant will be able to make use of the biogas produced during the sludge treatment process. The BIODOME® gas holder will hold and treat the biogas until its ready to be transferred in the combined heat and power engines where it will be converted into renewable energy and released to the national grid. In partnership with the client, the contractor took a pro-active risk management approach to the design and contractual arrangements with total success.
