Having a number of relatives that were artists, some well known, I suppose I inherited the desire to draw and paint. Being born into an artistic family provided my first art schooling; my father was a professional wildlife artist and so I was learning early on. As a teenager I attended community college art classes. After my naval enlistment I attended college at the University of Minnesota with Design Communication as my major and an emphasis on art history. People and animals are my preferred subject matter. My artwork is usually descriptive of my personal experiences and surroundings, hence, my subject matter is most often a part of rural Minnesota lifestyle: horses, hunting dogs, wildlife, hunting, fishing, team roping, and farm life. I do appreciate art that draws upon what we cannot copy from our surroundings and for that reason I am compelled to delve into fantasy art as well. This is an area I would enjoy working in more. I have been employed as a commercial artist and now work freelance. I have experience with diverse mediums including watercolor, acrylic, oil, pencil, charcoal, and pen and ink. I also sculpt and have done some large scale murals. Most of my paintings are owned by individuals, however, I have done a number of murals and sculptures that are on permanent public display. These can be seen at the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, Minnesota; the Detroit Science Center in Michigan; the Minnesota State Fair Grounds, and the Minnesota Science Museum. My art work was also chosen for the 2005 Minnesota Trout Stamp.
