Biography / Filmography Director ~ Neil Affleck A native of Montréal, Quebec Neil Affleck studied animation as a teenager with the National Film Board of Canada under the aegis of world-renowned animation pioneer, Norman McLaren. At Dawson College in Montreal, he earned a diploma in social sciences, and completed a three-year professional theatre training program. From 1979 through to 1985, he worked as a professional actor in Canadian theatre, film and television. In 1985, Neil moved to Los Angeles to study at the UCLA School of Motion Pictures and Television, where he graduated in 1988. Between 1988 and 2000 Neil worked as an animated filmmaker in Los Angeles, notably as the director of the award-winning educational film “Sacajawea”, and for a decade with the celebrated television series “The Simpsons”, the last four as a director. In 1999 Neil was nominated for a Prime Time Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program for the Simpsons episode “Viva Ned Flanders”. In 2001, Neil returned to Canada to work with Nelvana on the Maurice Sendak series “Seven Little Monsters”. From 2003 to 2006 he directed the children’s television series “Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends” and “A Froggy Day in Sunny Patch” This direct-to-video film was honored with the Humanitas Prize for 2006 in Los Angeles. In 2006 and 2007 Neil worked in Los Angeles as an Animation Timing Director on “The Simpson’s Movie” Neil directed “Pearlie” for Nelvana between 2009 and 2010 and he worked as Supervising Director of “Mike the Knight” a preschool Nelvana / HIT coproduction from 2010 through 2012. In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Neil is an educator. He was a part-time instructor at the California Institute of the Arts from 1997 to 2000, working with the late Jules Engel in the Experimental Animation Program. From 2003-2004 he taught part-time at the Seneca College Animation Arts Program in Toronto. Neil speaks English, French and Spanish.
