Writing is a longtime passion of mine. I earned a B.A. in English Education with a Writing minor from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 2007. Most of my work experience since then has been in an educational setting, however, I also work as a part-time freelance writer. Honestly, interesting topics are what usually determine whether or not I take on a job. If hired, I am a stickler for maintaining the highest standard of professionalism. Deadlines will be met without fail, feedback will be accepted/incorporated, and the client's wishes take priority. I'm used to working for a fixed amount per article and invoice via PayPal. My fee is negotiable (variation dependent upon difficulty, interest in the topic, and the number of hours required.) Whether you choose to hire me or not, good luck on all future endeavors, Sarah E. I am intelligent, crafty, witty, wise, unique, amusing, entertaining, delightful, playful, lovable, and most of all, humble. I prefer comedic writing but have a natural flare for copywriting. My vocabulary is extensive, my grammar is impressive, and I never submit a final product until I am convinced it is flawless.

I am an experienced senior commissioning editor and novelist with a decade in the publishing industry under my belt. Having begun life as an editorial assistant at Penguin, I moved to Headline (part of Hachette UK), where I have commissioned and edited a number of Sunday Times bestsellers. In 2018 I tried my own hand at writing, and (much to my surprise!) my debut novel SOMETHING TO LIVE FOR was pre-empted by Orion in the UK and Putnam Penguin in the US (where it was published in hardback as How Not To Die Alone). It went on to sell in 20 languages, and was optioned for TV. The New York Times said 'I loved this novel with my whole heart'. BBC News Online called it 'charming, humorous and life-affirming'. It was fiction book of the month at Barnes & Noble in paperback. My second novel, WHEN WE WERE YOUNG, was published in July 2021, and people have said some nice things about it so far: 'Richard Roper writes with wit, soul, and beautiful prose.' – Good Morning America ‘This delightful, endearing outing becomes a heartfelt meditation on male companionship, forgiveness, and navigating life’s ups and downs. Roper’s story shimmers.’ – Publishers Weekly 'A funny, tender British bromance.' – People Magazine As someone with a foot in both camps as author and editor, working in fiction and non-fiction, I have experience at all stages of the publishing process. Structural edits and assessments have always been my favourite part of the job. I take real pride in my work, and I love the buzz I get while helping authors figure out the puzzle of putting a book together. I feel it's vital that encouragement and solutions should be at the forefront of an edit, and that feedback should be empathetic and kind. My fiction journey was far from straightforward. Having had my work rejected by agents and publishers before I found both, I know how hard it can be to keep going. Refining my agent query letter and my manuscript to find representation and a publisher is one of my proudest achievements, and I relish helping others over the line. So whether you are a novelist looking for help with editorial assessments, developmental editing, or an agent query letter, a budding non-fiction writer after feedback on your proposal, or someone needing a final pair of eyes for a careful proofread, then I'd love to hear from you.
