Joshua D. Garber 5360 Jocelyn Ln, Charlotte, NC 28269 Phone: 651-315-2182 • E-mail: jskinnyg@mac.com About Me • I am a professional and university-trained vocalist and guitarist of the past 15 years, yet again looking to expand my horizons. I am an on time, efficient, technically minded, and problem-solving yet get-the-job-done musician with a strong work ethic both in the studio and on the stage, all while entertaining anyone in front of me. For the past 7 years I lived in Cancun, Mexico entertaining the tourists with my band every week while playing select fly dates in the Southeast US. I currently reside in Charlotte, NC. • I also co-managed a karaoke/DJ business, doing so now for over 13 years, with locations in Cancun, Mexico and Charlotte, North Carolina. Professional Experience The Newz: Charlotte, NC, Oct. 2010 – Present • Lead Vocalist/Guitarist After relocating back to NC in August of 2010, I quickly secured the lead vocalist/rhythm guitar position in a band called The Newz. The Newz has been highly regarded as one of the best NC regional bands for classic rock & pop, and is known for playing venues and festivals all over NC. Very popular in the metropolitan areas of Charlotte & surrounding regional cities, The Newz is known for their high energy shows. I also play in a duo named The Jeff & Joshua Acoustic Revival and perform shows solo acoustic as well. Freelance Writer & Product Reviews, Dec. 2009 – Present Freelance writing for tourist websites such as www.DoCancun.com and professional music equipment reviews for publications such as Audio Media Magazine. Flashback: Cancun MX, Oct. 2004 – June 2010 • Lead Vocalist/Guitarist Since joining Flashback over five years ago in Cancun, Mexico, I have played in all the city’s major nightclubs as well as most of the major resorts and hotels in the hotel zone. Flashback is the most popular and in-demand band in Cancun and the Riviera Maya due to their versatility and range in all styles of American and Latino music. We perform the music of many super groups from the 60's, 70's and 80's such as Chicago; Toto; Earth, Wind & Fire; and Queen as well as many styles and bands from popular music from the past 50 years. The band's song list is over 275 songs in English and 100 in Spanish. Flashback played 3 to 4 times a week in the club Pancho & Willy's as well as private events all year ‘round. Chubby's Karaoke, Inc: Cancun and Charlotte, Sept. 1997 – Present (http://cancunkaraoke.chubbysays.com/about/joshua/) • Karaoke DJ / Vice President Almost 14 years ago in Charlotte, NC I began to help Keith "Chubby" Chubb his wife Trinity expand their karaoke business from a minivan, one karaoke rig and four shows a week to 18 shows a week with 10 employees, operating all over the Charlotte Metro area. In 2003, I relocated to Cancun to help them expand their business into the tourist market and am still working with them today. I have over 1,300 karaoke/DJ shows under my belt, experience in starting/playing shows in over 50 locations, and trained numerous employees over the years. (Joshua D. Garber resume, continued) Peace & Love: Charlotte, Oct. 1998 – Sept. 2000 • Lead Singer/ Vocalist Based out of Charlotte, Peace & Love is a very successful regional R&B/Funk party band, regularly touring the Southeast US. Coming from a mainly rock background in my professional work with bands, I wanted to expand my horizons. Mainly an R&B/funk band, P&L had a touch of everything in their set list. I played with this group for over a year and a half, really taking in the road for a while, soaking up all the various styles of live performance that I could. This band is where I learned how to put on a real show onstage. Peace & Love continues their success today. Sound Choice: Charlotte, Jul 1996 - Oct 1999 (www.soundchoicestudios.com) • Recording Studio Vocal Talent In addition to being a recording engineer for Sound Choice, I was also a vocal talent for the company. I sang on hundreds of tracks, both lead and background vocals, which required me to try and imitate the original artist to the best of my ability. My original style was mainly rock and roll, but quickly evolved due to my higher vocal range, availability and willingness to try any style. I quickly began to accumulate work on country, R&B, pop and rock tracks. Sound Choice: Charlotte, Oct 1996 - Oct 1998 (www.soundchoicestore.com) • Recording Engineer Sound Choice was the leading karaoke track manufacturer in the early 90's, remaking and recording thousands of songs for the karaoke market. After starting as a tape copy boy, months later I was promoted to a recording engineer for the company and recorded material for over 1000 songs. I spent most of my time recording the vocal talent for the company because of my experience as a vocalist and my good ear for harmony and melody. Educational Experience Bachelor of Science in Music Industry Studies • Appalachian State University, Boone, NC: Jan 1992 - May 1996 Bachelor of Science in Music Industry Double concentration in Recording & Production and Marketing & Promotion General Business Minor High School Diploma • Tuscola High School, Waynesville, NC: Aug 1988 - May 1991 Skills & Interests • Vocalist (Live & Studio Work) • Recording Engineer • Live Sound Engineer • Rhythm Guitarist • Band Marketing & Promotion • Talent Booking • Freelance Writer & Product Reviews • Computer (Mac) & Graphics Experience • Photography References available upon request
