I have been enamored with the written and spoken word since I was a child. I grew up in a house full of books. My parents instilled a love of reading in me at a very young age. I was given a piano shortly after my father passed away. I have been playing and writing songs ever since. After spending more than a decade in show business, I spent several years working in the advertising field. I then decided to become a teacher. I have more than 20 years of classroom experience that include several years teaching in third world countries. Recently, I returned to the United States and decided to devote my time entirely to writing and music. I am actively pursuing freelance assignments and I am committed to refining my skills as a writer. +

Hey my name is Van Lee, check me out at www.vanleeart.com When I get creative my unconscious mind takes over and I am whisked away into my imagination. I find being creative an extraordinary adventure that I love sharing with the world. Born in Brisbane, I have been painting ever since she could remember. I have attended art classes for over a decade and my creative abilities have led me to become a qualified fashion designer. My art displays an endless variety of mixed media from acrylics, oils, water paints, charcoal, pastels and clay etc. I will be exhibiting for the Amnesty human rights collaboration at the Hazelhurst Gallery in 2014. Following my passion for free hand art I received the St James Art Award and has won additional art awards in past years. My art is usually emotion driven so I’m not one to settle with a particular style of art that I believe portrays my “image”. However, I do believe that when I create an art piece, no matter what my muse may be, I will always leave some impression of myself.

I write everyday and have for most of my life. I mainly enjoy writing about the outdoors, and am an avid nature lover and will climb mountains just for a photo of that mountain and to write about it. I will take hours and sometimes days, just to get a photograph of an animal I am writing about, " the perfect photo." I also worked for a municiple police department as a dispatch supervisor, writing and editing hundreds of reports for myself and co-workers. I recently switched jobs and I am now guiding tourists up a mountain in southeast Alaska. I began blogging once a week, about what is going on up on the trail. I talk about the surrounding mountains, flora, and wildlife that is abundant in southeast Alaska. Bears are a main topic of conversation, and I am happy to talk about the bears and their habitat.

I completed a Psychology Degree with Honours in the UK in 2001, focusing on attachment, biopsychology and cognitive neuropsychology. My dissertation looked at levels of individuals' conscious control of the autonomic nervous system and their role in trait anxiety. I have since trained extensively in Neuro Linguistic Programming, studied Hypnosis and attained a Vocational Graduate Diploma in Counselling (Family Therapy/Loss and Grief). I also have a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, along with a vast knowledge of the Australian Vocational Education sector. During the last ten years, writing and project development/quality assurance have constituted the majority of my working life. I have developed presentations, brochures, training resources, reports, research and assessment materials within health, psychology and coaching fields. I have successfully targeted various audiences, from motivational leaflets for six year olds to physiology training resources for allied health professionals to counselling materials for mature aged students. Writing is a skill that comes naturally to me and I enjoy a variety of challenges, which is the reason I am interested in freelance writing.
