My name is Jermaine Penn. I have recently graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor's degree in foreign languages(Spanish and Russian). I have been studying Russian for about 4 years now. My writing is pretty good, but my speaking skills are much better. I am exceptionally fluent in Russian, but have little fluency in Spanish. I have studied abroad in Moscow, Russia for a month, immersing myself with the people and also taking classes there as well. I have taken a Russian translation class at my university for a whole semester, but still need a little bit more experience. I have also been viewed by my peers and my professors as a diligent worker. My goal is to become a Russian linguist.

I've been creating art since the age of 4. I've always been interested in art, in grammar school I had a one man show and won many awards in High School. I went to Ray Vogue Commercial Art school for college, where I swept the 1982 spring art show for illustration. I have always created art but I was always looking for that certain something that would differentiate from me from other artists. I worked in all kinds of mediums from water-color to pastels always searching for that unique style. Through out my life I had to draw every night or I wasn't a happy man, still searching for my voice. As time went on I'd complete a piece here and there but I just was not satisfied with my work and as life does happen I was married and had a few kids. So I would have a day job then come home at night and do the family man thing then finally I'd go out to my studio at night, still searching. Then in 2004 tragedy struck and my studio burnt to the ground. It was devastating, you have to realize I lost the majority of my life's work. After rebuilding I got back to work, still struggling with the loss of so much of my work. But sometimes I think things work out the way they have to and this gave me a clean slate so to speak, where I started to search for that thing or some would call it my voice. Like I said sometimes things have to work out the way they work out, 6 months after losing my studio I found my voice. Before finding my thing I would complete maybe 4 or 5 pieces a year starting many pieces and not completing them because it just didn't feel right there was something missing. Since finding my voice I complete all my work averaging 25 works per year. Since 2005 I've completed over 200 pieces of art. In my case my voice or that thing artist look for was more the right technique. I've always liked working in the negative starting on black adding light and color to create shape and depth, I always felt it was more dramatic and there are more possibilities working in the negative. After the fire I finally found a technique that gave me a full spectrum of light to dark that I was looking for and I felt this is the type of work I wanted to bring to galleries and to the main stream art world. Hopefully you'll find my work interesting and worth your time.

I have been lost regarding my art for too many years, I didn't paint, draw, carve, nothing for twenty years. Then in 2006 I moved to Maine and had time on my hands, due solely for only having a part time job. So it was then I started to dabble into the oil paints again, it felt wonderful to create again. I expanded my works to include woodcarving, I became a woodcarving nut...I couldn't stop. I knew I had to find another job, this wasn't working, although I enjoyed using the brushes and knives, it wasn't paying the bills. I left maine five years later to take a class in autocad, once I completed the course and got certified I found a fulltime job with great pay. It was at this time in my life I found joy in the colored pencil medium and I can't get enough. Thanks for reading!

Art by Poe "Revealed" I was born in 1975 in Carlisle, PA to Edgar Allan and Emma Poe. I took to art at an early age and was mentored by Joe Pucci, a well known local Italian artist. Apparently I had inherited my creative ability from my distant relation to the great author Edgar Allan Poe. It was always funny to see my friends faces when they came over to my house and saw a stuffed Raven and the portrait of Poe we had hanging in the hallway. My Great Aunt was to have traced our family's lineage back to the author while she taught at The University of Virginia. I continued to excel in art and received numerous art awards while attending grade school as well the Governors Gold Key for "Outstanding Portfolio", while in High School. My art had been featured on local television news and the PBS station for their annual fund raiser telethon. I graduated from High School and was accepted to School of Visual Arts in New York, but decided to attend Collins Art School in Tempe, Arizona where I majored in Illustration. After completion I moved back to Pennsylvania and married my wife Shelly. Shortly after, I followed another artistic passion in culinary arts. In partnership with my wife, La Luz Gallery and Cafe was opened spring of 2004. The gallery/cafe fusion was a success and key in the redevelopment of historic downtown Carlisle. I was a member of the Carlisle Art Association and worked in partnership with Garden Gallery owner Charles Andrews in creating Haverstick Studios for artists in Carlisle. I also ventured into an additional side business called Inspired Images, specializing in murals and faux finishes. Clients included, Casa Mani Cafe, Oasis on Hanover Massage, Golds Gym and the restoration of 'Carlisle's Walk Through History Mural'. I was also the founder of A.R.C, Arts Reaching Community. This was a free program which offered art classes for youth in the community. I had been featured in numerous news paper articles in the Carlisle Sentinel and Harrisburg Patriot News for my artwork and entrepreneurial efforts. In 2008 my love of the southwest and ambition to explore new artistic endeavors drew me back to Arizona. I currently work full time as an Account Manager, and continue to work as a commission based artist for business and residential clients. I have a passion for creativity and a yearning to let it grow. I am a driven individual who strides to push himself from the start. I have an in depth understanding of the twelve principles of animation, so much that I have always been the one called for by others for assistance. My ability to learn and understand new animation tools, styles, and techniques have allowed me to excel in both school studies and in self education. It has also been the reason why my professors have come to me looking for help with other students and with understanding something they haven't learned.
