I am a 58 year old, unemployed mother of 2 grown-up sons. I have been practising and working in the field of fine art for the past 10 years or so. I exhibit my work, which is currently reverse painting on perspex at Kirstenbosch Gardens, Cape Town. I have exhibited in many galleries in Cape Town over the years which have shown my landscapes and abstract work in oil on canvas. I have no formal art qualification but am largely self-taught, having attended many life-drawing and portrait classes and workshops. I am a member of S.A.S.A ( the South African Society of Artists) and have participated in many of their juried exhibitions. This year I was part of their Merit Exhibition, which is only open to the top 40 artists in the group, which currently numbers over 500 members. In my lifetime I have had varied careers, ranging from teaching, to Medical Technology to running a music business! I have many interests and talents, having had to adapt to changing circumstances and bringing up children. My paper qualifications are a B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) with a Higher Education Diploma (N.H.E.D)and a Medical Technology Diploma. (dip. Med Tech) I have served on various committees and have also been involved in Lifeline and other charity organisations, helping to raise funds. Rebecca-Rose Profound Portrait Artist, Sculptor, Muralist Rebecca-Rose is a Profound Portrait Artist, Sculptor, Muralist and Director of RMFAC Studio /Gallery. RMFAC was founded in 1982 with her grandmother, teacher, and mentor Mrs. Rose Washington Metzger. Mrs. Metzger self-taught, began her career (1932) in Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance. Rebecca-Rose earned a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Carnegie–Mellon University and a Masters in Human Services with a concentration in Organizational Management in 2003 and completed the Post- Baccalaureate Program at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art (concentration in Sculpture) in 2006. Rebecca Rose completed her first commission for public art in 1978. She has worked with several communities throughout Philadelphia to complete mural art and sculptural projects. Rebecca–Rose was selected the First Artist for the Anti- Graffiti Network for the North Philadelphia Amtrak Project from which the Mural Arts Program emerged. As mural art coordinator for the Crisis Intervention Network, she engaged art to guide the destructive violence of gang youth into constructive transformation with the support of parents, community and political leaders. Rebecca-Rose has completed works of art for President Jimmy Carter, Impresario Samuel L. Evans and Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annon and the City of Philadelphia. The artist culminates forty years of experience in art. Added experiences in art education services enhance her exceptional insight, and dedication in the exploration of the profound in art.
