Artist's Statement: I was born in Colorado and lived there until I felt it was time for me to go and explore my future. I began traveling at 16. I moved into a city or country until I established a profession, an existence, a story there. Once life became habitual, it would be time to seek a new part of my self, and I would abandon everything to begin anew. I participated in this nomad life, writing all the details of it, until I began my family, and in 1999, settled down in rural—beautiful!—West Virginia. Art for me continues to be a way to journey and learn about pieces of my hidden self. I have been involved in the arts my whole life. I have been a writer, a jewelry designer, a sculptor, a stained glass artist and a potter, yet I have not been able to maintain a long term rapport with any medium until I began my relationship with photography. Photography is very intuitive for me. Ever since I picked up a camera I have treated it as a means of articulation, and I have been confident that it is what I would do with my life. As an artist I enjoy the foreplay of creating. When initiating art in the past I’ve only been capable of addressing one or two ideas at a time, but through photography I am able to indulge hundreds of intentions in a short period. I love the immediacy of this medium. I also love that photography is a business of light; it is literally composing using luminescence as ones tool. There is no secret that “light” is the term used by many spiritual paths to define what is pure and divine. It is an honor spending my moments chasing such divinity. In this regard photography has become not just an expression, but a form of worship. It is seeing what is miraculous and sacred in life, and then sharing these evoked sensations with others through visual poetry. Substantiating with imagery is a way to communicate and point out this awesome world for others to notice and realize. As a photographer I can be an artist that isn’t just the inventor but the receiver of creation, and who interacts with this art daily. This is why I view photography simultaneously as prayer and revelry. Transcendence through imagery abounds in each moment. It’s just a matter of acknowledging this and opening ones heart to the receiving of it. I possess a creative spirit and a curious mind. My experience includes professional writing and editing for a Chicago magazine publisher. I have worked as a tech writer for PPG Industries and Hewlett-Packard compiling operation procedure manuals and editing contracts for the legal department. Creatively, I worked as a production editor on two trade magazines and one consumer publication and designed presentations for tradeshows and marketing materials for Labtec Enterprises including catalogs, sell sheets, brochures, press releases, graphics and newsletters. Recently, I worked on an editing team on a book written by a holistic medical practitioner. For the past five years, I excelled as a high school English and broadcast journalism teacher. I have maintained a website and blog for special needs children and their parents. I have also worked as a researcher for a physician preparing new parent information packets for parents of special needs children. Currently, I am seeking remote contract work or telecommute job in the Chicago area. I deliver a plethora of experience and talent and am an expert at multi-tasking and meeting deadlines. My educational background consists of a B.A.degree from Eastern Illinois University with English/Journalism majors and minors in psychology and professional writing; and a M.A.degree from Olivet Nazarene University in 2006. Thank you for your time. I look forward to working with you.

Native Iowan, Doug Knutson, brings to life his Midwest surroundings in his landscapes, still life and wildlife paintings. Even as a youngster growing up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Knutson knew he would devote his life to his artwork. Following graduation from Omaha Art School, he began his career as an illustrator in the Editorial Art Department of the Omaha World-Herald newspaper. After about 12 years at that position, Doug’s commercial art career took him to an Eastern Iowan illustration studio where he spent several years working for national clients. Over the years he has completed illustrations for many clients including Abbey Press, Admiral, American Express, Apple Creek Publishing, Barton Beers, Bradford Exchange, Brown Publishing, Burger King, Christian Life Resources, Cracker Barrel, Concordia Publishing, Crossways Books, Ertl Racing Champions, Farmland, Flowerama of America, Focus on the Family, Franklin Mint, Gibson, Giftco, Group Publishing, Hampton Brown, Harcourt Brace, John Deere, K and Company, Kansas City Star, Kenmore, Leanin’ Tree, Longaburger, McDonald’s, Miles Kimball, McMillan-McGraw Hill Publishing, Missouri Lottery, Morgan-Cain & Assoc., Perfection Learning, Pocket Books, Purina, Quarasan, Random House, Rivertown Trading Co., Rodale Press, Scholastic, Scott Foresman, Texaco, and Zondervan Publishing. Illustrations have ranged from CD and video cases to children's books, cards, posters, labels, advertising materials and collectable tins and plates. Upon becoming a freelance illustrator several years ago, the flexibility of time led Doug back to his love of nostalgia, antiques and rural life, and today there are over 75 acrylic paintings in print, inspired by his Midwestern surroundings. Currently, Doug Knutson resides in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, balancing his time between illustration assignments and images for prints. His images may be viewed at www.dougknutsonillustration.com . OK , if you need old fashioned illustrations for cards, books or other materials, please give me call. I would love to show you my portfolio.

I received Paintings and Lithography Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Strzeminski Fine Art Academy. I have spent almost thirty years traveling into the secret world of visual communication. It isn’t always a pleasant adventure but, I consider myself very lucky. I do what I love. I have done over thirty individual and group shows in the US and in Europe: Srticoff Fine Art Gallery in New York, Discovery Galleries in Bethesda, Atlas Galleries in Chicago, Vail Fine Art Gallery in Vail, Signature Gallery of Chicago, Triada Gallery in Gdansk, Newbourgh Avenue Gallery in Boston Fingerhut Galleries of California and Breckenridge Fine Art Gallery. Since this life is the only one given to us, I love to see as many sides of it, as my body and mind can handle… racing bicycle, skiing and sailing… to list a few… Years ago, I had my adventure with theater and stage production, as well as with motion picture, where I designed the sets… The Light is my art’s motto. It hits many obstacles on the way from its’ source to infinity. The adventure with The Light is like a story without an end. The nature of it challenges me. I am not looking for cheap effects; I just follow The Great Wizard who awakens senses.
