As the friend that everyone came to when they needed their essays and school projects edited, my first projects consisted of helping people pass their classes. In high school I rekindled the passion that I'd had for writing as a child, and finally, two years ago, I found the courage to share my work. I started with a low-level position on a literary magazine and shot up the ranks quickly because of the skill I'd acquired in those early years, and eventually started my own publication. My primary responsibilities at these magazine positions were to identify any issues with the writing and offer suggestions to improve it. This wasn't just limited to grammar and punctuation, but also elements of the story such as plot and character development, even down to little details like the color of a character's eyes. Although I can do academic and nonfiction, my specialty is fiction, especially short stories and novel-length works. My goal when working with an author is never to just improve the manuscript they hire me to edit, but to teach them ways to make their future stories even better. I want every person I work with to come away from the job having learned something--and I often learn something from them as well. For this reason, I love cultivating relationships with writers, even if I only get to work for them once; I aim to be a mentor. I promise to always be honest with you, even if that means telling you that you need to fix something, but I won't leave you there--we will work through it together.
