I am a writer and editor with a background in English literature and librarianship. The writing work I have done includes science and current events articles for students, as well as travel articles for a general audience. My editing work has included all levels of editing for academic papers, novels, biographies, articles, and other texts. I am especially interested in proofreading and copy editing but would be willing to do many kinds of related work, including fact checking and other services to help produce clear and well-written documents.

“Grandma on the go” would suit me well. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and have spent most of my life there. The sound of rain soothes my soul, the beauty of nature inspires me, the ocean, salt air and sand are an integral part of life. My heritage is of the sea, with ancestors from Scandinavia and England. There are sailors, fisherman, nobleman and even royalty in my past. Explorers, painters, writers, farmers and the list goes on and on. I am blessed by such a rich heritage. Raised on Rhodesia Beach, near the small coastal town of Bay Center, Washington I was a shy girl, a loner. Lost in the pages of a book, exploring the thick woods, or searching for treasures along the shore, I was content to be alone. It was a wonderful childhood. My father, Forrest, who I adored, ran a successful oyster business. However, when he became ill and unable to work my life changed dramatically. Eventually I grew up, thankful for the wise lessons learned from my parents. Suffice it to say I have attended the school of hard knocks, often going head to head with “Murphy’s Law” but eventually winning the day, the week or the year. I am the proud mother of eight children, (Yes, all of them are mine). Our nest is empty but the grandchildren are starting to appear. Alyssa is the oldest at 3 and there is Jacob jr., Madison and Hunter as well. Gardening in the summer is my favorite pastime, and most evenings and rainy days (and where ever else I can) involve reading. A love of reading, of adventure, was instilled while very young. Telling make believe stories to my niece and nephews led to writing short stories, poetry, skits and eventually a published article here and there. Someday, perhaps, I will tackle the book market. (I have enough adventures to fill volumes) But for now, past the half century mark in years, I am content to enjoy the works of others. Their voyages of discovery become mine. Once again I am young, free, and taking on the world.

Hi I’m Alexandra Coombs, I’m currently a student at Fanshawe College, enrolled in a 3D Animation and Character Design one year post-grad program. I graduated from Mohawk College with a Diploma in Television Communications in 2010. In the past four years I have been taking my time figuring out where I want to take my life and what my career choice is going to be. Studying television, I found myself always enjoying graphic. I completely dominated in the web design, photoshop and after effects and decided that’s where I’d like to go. Last year, I got an internship at Soho VFX in Toronto. I went in their studio knowing close to nothing about VFX. I got the chance to job shadow all positions and I learned so much. I was very intrigued by the texture artist; taking a blank object and bringing it to life through painting and detailing objects interested me a lot. I thought it was amazing. I asked question after question after question until I figured out what I needed to do to become that person. Although a bit late in the game, I applied to school for VFX and 3D. I got put on the waiting list for Sheridan and Seneca but got accepted to Fanshawe. Since I didn’t have time to wait, I accepted. This year at Fanshawe has been the hardest year of my life. I came into this program knowing absolutely nothing about 3D and what it actually took to make 3D Animation. I was definitely one of the biggest under dogs and it showed. I cried, and I came close to failing. But failure or giving up isn’t an option for me. I got myself a tutor, Chris Butts (best guy around!), and I stayed by his side until I finally understood what I was doing. I was also the worst at texture when I started – by far the absolute worst! Now I can say I’m one of the top, and overall one of the best in the class. I have only a few more weeks to go until I’m done. It has been the hardest year of my life but at the same time the greatest. If I didn’t believe in myself I would have failed. But, I will never give up and I will always follow my goals and dreams. My biggest goal is to work for Disney’s Pixar. It may be the hardest places to get into, but if I give it my all for the next few years I know will make it.
