I am a freelance illustrator living in North Carolina and I specialize in artwork of animals. In the past I enjoyed full time employment at the American Kennel Gazette in New York City (the flagship publication for the American Kennel Club) but presently own a regional Pet Portrait business. I usually work on commission, doing formal graphite, pen & ink and colored pencil portraits of dogs and horses. I have in the past done illustration work for the Saint Louis Zoo, Hills Pet Products, various dog breed clubs,The American Kennel Gazette, Argus Communications and Howell Book House. My work is known for its detail, however, I also employ looser, sketchier techniques upon request. In addition, I illlustrate a monthly column entitled "Southwords" for "Pinestraw Magazine" in Southern Pines, NC (see www.pinestrawmag.com to view this magazine online). Several decades of successful software engineering practice as both staff member and consultant, with a concentration in embedded systems. Over ten years of current experience in medical device development, following on the heels of many more years as a developer of operating code for professional electronic music products. Solid understanding of electronics (BSEE) and ability to work hands-on with digital and analog hardware down to the component level. Strong emphasis upon quality of code, including appropriate architecture design, logical organization of functionality, design for testability, rigorous testing of code as it is developed, human readability and ease of comprehension of source code, and clear source code documentation. Speedy development via thorough understanding of the complete system including hardware, careful problem analysis, preference for the simplest robust approach, anticipation of potential failure cases, minimization of special-case handling, and avoidance of counter-intuitive shortcuts and ”quick and dirty” implementations, always with the goal of creating code that immediately works as intended and can successfully be extended and modified by others without breaking, thereby avoiding time lost to debugging and the high cost of undetected bugs.

Hi, I'm Ray Howard, I am a singer, songwriter and motivational speaker. I believe it is imperative that each and everyone of us do all that we can to reach our dreams, our goals and our full potential in life. Every thing that I do and everything I say is to bring that cause to life. I write a variety of music, but mostly positive, motivating, educating and inspiring songs that I use in my trainings, my presentations, my Keynote addresses and sometimes purely for your enjoyment. I have spent the better part of my life torn between two passions, Music (singing and songwriting) and Human Growth and Development (assisting Youth and Young Adults to find and develop their gifts, talents and passions). I always seek out ways to marry my two passions.
