About:
©2009 AS158C Illustration and Narrative Div Forestry.
Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon brought Andalusia horses to Florida in 1521. This was 11,000 years after the extinction of all horses in the Americas. The stock from explorers was used by Native Americans and settlers and became known as The Cracker Horse. This horse was used during the American Civil War and Cuban War of Independence. Today there are approximately 800 horses living with blood lines to the original Spanish breed.

About:
©2002 OS104G Illustration and Narrative Botanical Garden.
Within the Everglade ecosystem, a forest of predominately Pond-apple, ash and cypress trees interacts with bromeliads, moss, and fungi, to create a habitat for an orchid and a moth. Timed to the rainy season and increasing water level, the bloom stalk of the Ghost Orchid rises from its leafless hibernation on a non-specific host tree to exist exclusively in southern Florida and Cuba.

Anglers find challenge in the ability of Largemouth Bass, a prominent fresh-water sport fish to break the water surface while throwing a hook. Dragonflies have migrated on earth for 325 million years. There are dragonflies known to travel 11,000 miles in a season. That is over twice the distance Monarch Butterflies migrate.
