About:
In Louis Sachar’s story Holes, Stanley Yelnats is convicted of a crime he did not commit and sentenced to Camp Green Lake, a boys’ detention camp, where he spends much of his summer digging holes in the middle of the desert. Mr. Pendanski, Stanley’s counselor, claims that the boys’ are digging holes to build character. But Stanley soon realizes that the digging of holes at Camp Green Lake has absolutely nothing to with character-building. It is likely that part of the reason Sachar titled his book Holes is because of the many holes the boys dig throughout the book. But there might be other reasons he gave this book that title. The title Holes could represent the hard things the Stanley and Zero go through during the story and how they eventually come out victorious.
