A closer look at the watercolor image of the child, toes in the mud, playing with his handmade paper boat. The way it looks to him shows in the puddle reflection...

Thank you, ladies! I wasn't sure I could pull it off, so I set up a friend's child as my model and photographed the angle. Come to think of it, I should use that approach more often! Thanks for the reminder, girls!

Stunning and takes us all back there to our childhood where there was not a worry in the world....Love it!! I love the angle too and how he see the boat colored as it reflects in the water....

Thank You! Leave it to you to notice his boat. It's a newspaper boat with a straw mast and a paper sail, which of course he sees as a real clipper ship. I want to build more of these frames and continue this series of "A Child's Dream" eventually.

Thank you for the support. I've had to homeschool my boys this semester, so more than usual. But, I know I will. There is a reason this plan has stayed with me for so many years: Since college!

Yes,the teaching at home would be demanding for sure, and remembering those words, there is a time for all things under the sun, and that time will come.....

wow. what an awesomely *brilliant* idea! the depth and the composition are so wonderful, but, best of all, as one's eye is wandering around the piece...surprise! the reflection of the paper boat on the water is a schooner! bravo, shawn! bravo!

Incredible Shawn... so playful, yet with a dreamy, mysterious air about it!
I sure hope you're doing public shows... people would surely benefit from your magic!

Hay Shawn,I dont think you read that wonderful comment i gave you two days ago,at first i remember,it was just me and you talking with one another and know i think its hard for me to comment back to you, because your getting a lot more feedback then just me,i wish you could read all my messages like it use to be.

Renée, Do you ever have an artwork that is so inspired, that when you finish and look back on it you're like 'wow! I can't believe I did that." This is one of those pieces for me. I wish I still had all of the little accessories on it. Around the frame, one day I will have to remedy that. The thing about this sort of successful piece is the fear that creeps in after a while, whispering 'can I duplicate the layers of meaning? Or still execute this level of realism?'
Does anyone else out there have a similar struggle as an artist? I own a book called "Art and Fear" which I apparently need to revisit! Part of the key is to create my heart more often as I did in college. I admire this about so many of you on this site. I hope to continue this series Em Gee, as I have promised myself, long ago, and as I am promising you, now. Maybe I won't
have as much financial need to complete freelance jobs soon, and thus free up time for my own inspirations. If you happen to believe in prayer, as I do, very passionately, would you please pray for Bank of America to be fair and merciful and offer us an affordable new payment so that we can keep our home for our two boys? I was forced out of my 12 year elementary art teaching job over a year ago now, by a principal who apparently did not like that I stood up for the rights of my students when she continually and underhandedly, attacked our art program, and harassed me. Such a shame that some controlling individuals forget why they came into education in the first place. I believe it is past time I reached out for help to so many caring artists on this site. Please, if you believe — or even if you don't, since I know He is listening — please pray for our family.
