Ken Scotty is a character designer and animator in his third year at The Art Institute of Las Vegas. He was born in Ft. Myers, Florida but raised in Henderson, Nevada. Scotty graduated from Coronado High School in 2005 and went on to enlist in the United States Army in 2006. He served two tours in Iraq with both the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division and the 1st Cavalry Division as a Humvee driver and .50cal gunner. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 2010 and immediately began attending classes at The Art Institute. All his life, Scotty wanted nothing more than to be an animator. He began doodling dinosaurs at the age of 4 and characters of all kinds not long after. At the age of seven, he was trained in the fine arts by a local Ft. Myers artist named David Meo, who taught Scotty all about concept and composition. Through the years, Scotty found he preferred drawing cartoon characters over painting life or scenery. He ran with this preference for the rest of his life, perfecting goofy faces, odd proportions and a lightness in even the strangest of his works. Scotty attends school full time while living in Las Vegas, Nevada and taking care of his 2-year-old son, Sean. He creates 3D works from his home as a freelance artist ranging from furniture models to animations. He is expected to graduate in early 2014, where he will go on to rattle the animation field with his unrelenting passion and enviable talent.

Everyone has a story. Something that makes them interesting. Whether it’s breaking national news, or a mom and pop shop that’s been around for decades, I have a passion for telling these stories through a lens. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Photojournalism from Syracuse University in 2007. I currently live in Austin, Texas and have freelanced for several individuals, organizations, and newspapers, including but not limited to the Austin American Statesmen, Associated Press, San Antonio Express News, Houston Chronicle, and Dallas Morning News. My portfolio is versatile and includes personal stories, portraits, weddings, travel, families, events, news, and artistic expression. I find everyday life fascinating and I try to capture it every time I see it.
