Hello, I have a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I teach Humanities (western culture in history through: music, theatre, art, philosophy, and religion) classes at several community colleges in Virginia and North Carolina for my typical "Bread and Butter". For fun, my husband (guitarist) and I write songs and perform christian, folk, and semi-eclectic, half-classical story songs in multiple genres. I have held wonderfully creative jobs such as a professional, dramatic storyteller, an opera singer, musical theatre director, data entry, word processor for Technical Manuals for the US Navy, and a children's librarian. I love stories that end well, but not in an expected way. I am drawn to elements of magic, romance, touches of the paranormal, and self-discovery adventures. I believe art should inspire, teach personal responsibility, joy, and sometimes frighten - warn of consequences that arise from decisions made without thought for the "good of all". Whether the lesson is couched in a far-off fantasy land or another dimension, I will usually acknowledge a higher power (God) in my writing, but my characters and I also know how difficult it can be to do the right thing - even when we want to... So, we work it out together. Sometimes the stories write themselves, so I can't always anticipate exactly what might happen... I create fantastic obstacles and rollicking adventures because I think life - this ordinary, everyday, get-up-in-morning-every-day-and-go-to-work life is made up of real "magical moments" if we can keep our priorities straight, do what we have to, but also remember to appreciate our own mysterious life-journey. I'm just a young and normal guy. I have a dream and i'm running with it. Writing songs has been an outlet for me throughout my life. I've been been through storms of crap; i'm not going to give you my life story, what I will say is this. I've watch people slave their lives away working the 9-5 jobs brown-nosing, sucking up, and bending over backwards just to get by and eventually get told they're not needed anymore. I'm going to have a wife and a few kids someday, I'm going to have a mortgage, a car, and other basic essentials to pay for. I want to be able to provide for my future family. I want to provide for them doing something I love. I want them to know that you can swim against the current that this world functions by and chase your dreams. It's not going to be easy, life tough; if I'm going to rough it out anyways I might as well be doing something I love to do. "Be the change you wish to see in the world" Music is different in every part in the world, but it's the 1 thing that we all have in common. Music expresses the emotions that words cannot. David Gilmour's guitar playing resonates with you more than any singer ever could. How about Neil Peart's drumming? Or Dave Grohl's authenticity? Lyrics aren't meant to be words on a page or words to a song; they're meant to be emotions, emotions brought out by the indescribable sounds of music. I tend to right more Worship songs but can write about anything worth writing about. Sappy love songs, weepy depressed songs, angry songs, and inspirational songs; Whatever you want. I'm a big picture kind of guy. I can see the big picture, and understand the small so that everything works. I plan from whole to part. All at once...it's a skill. I enjoy writing as well and believe I have an excellent written voice, (not to sound too arrogant :), while writing in any form. I can write !Amazing! facts, news stories, descriptions, advertisements, and spoken word speeches. I pride myself on being concise, yet always covering the points in full detail in a manner which is easy to read/hear and understand.
