I have been teaching art since I graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. My students often ask me when I started drawing and I say, "when I could hold a pencil." I never remember a time when art wasn't a major part of my life, and I always admire the way children gravitate toward it. Picasso said, "Every child is an artist, the problem is to remain one once he grows up." I have found that even in my adult life I need art and creative expression the way a child does. The media I work in includes pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, acrylics and watercolor. My faith influences the subject matter I create. My recent work includes charcoal drawings on brown paper of self portraits and still lifes, watercolors of my travels to Mexico, and pen and ink drawings that incorporate portions of scripture into the faces and shapes of the picture.
