I am a hard working individual interested in the world of art and design. I have recently graduated from University and currently working as a freelance Illustrator and Graphic Artist, I am keen to break into the industry and start building and honing my skills to become the best that I can be. I am passionate and driven, with a good work ethic. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS Education and Qualifications Studied at Chalfont Community College, and Buckinghamshire New University • BA Hons Graphic Arts (2:1) • Foundation In Art and Design (merit) • AS Level in General Studies, A Level in Art, Digital Art, and English Literature. • GCSE’s in Art and Design, English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Wood Technology, Science (double), French, ICT (double), and Religious Education Key Achievements Throughout my studies art and design has always been my main interest. My foundation in art and design gave me access to a wide variety of different art forms, such as model making, graphic design, fine art and surface design. During the course I was able to experience each, working in a variety of different ways. It was during this year that I became certain my future was within the area of graphic arts and illustration. For my degree I was able to experience various sides of graphic arts, including typography, layout design, branding, illustration, and animation. I was also able to experience how graphic design works in relation to the advertising world. During my degree I wrote my dissertation on the methods of animation and whether traditional methods still hold relevance with the technology of today. Through my research I gained a good understanding of the nature of animation and film making, and where it might be taken in the future. SKILL SET Strong conceptual drawing and development Confident presenter Writing skills (instructive and creative) Mac and PC friendly Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, and Flash Basic understanding of After Effects Toon Boom Studio Microsoft Office Photography WORK EXPERIENCE AND EMPLOYMENT Company Number 9 Studios (Art Department Assistant) 3 week Placement Nov 2011 Artistic Licence UK (Caricature Artist) March-November 2011 Chalfont Community College (Art Technician) 2008-2009 Paul Mitchell Design (Graphic Design Intern) 2 Week Placement 2004 "Excellent Artist and member of the team. Very good attendance levels and attitude to work. We would happily re-employ Liam next season." -Sarah Pedley (Artistic Licence UK Area Manager) FREELANCE WORK I am currently working as a freelance illustrator and Graphic Artist, I have so far undertaken jobs such as a logo design for a small mobile disco company called “Pure Vibrations,” as well as some character design and Illustrative work for a soon to be launched website called “Workplace Freedom Fighters,” and I am currently in negations to illustrate a children’s book. "Liam was superb in every way. He was responsive, timely and delivered exactly what he said he would. He listens really well and above all his illustrations are incredible. I have no hesitation in recommending him" -Vanessa Anstee (Freelance Client) EXPERIENCE Whilst at University I had the opportunity to work on a number of live briefs, coming into contact with advertising agencies. In my first year of University I acted as a team leader for a live brief entitled “Jamie Oliver’s Good Food” set by William Murray Hamm. I then had the opportunity to work on a number of competition briefs during my time at university, including; “Write and Illustrate a Children’s Book” – Macmillan “Create a Disney Character” - DNAD “James and the Giant Peach”- Penguin During my final year at university I was able to visit New York, and a number of creative design agencies in the city, to get an idea of the way in which agencies will be approached by a client, and the various stages a project might go through. These included; The Chopping Block Stardust Imaginary Forces Brand New School Saatchi & Saatchi X After finishing university I began working as a full time caricature artist for Artistic Licence UK. During my time working there I came into contact with a variety of different people, from different backgrounds and of different ages on a daily basis. I was drawing up to 50 caricatures a day and therefore had to adapt to working at a fast and steady pace. I have also undertook some work experience with Paul Mitchell Design, during my two weeks here I worked as part of a small team of Graphic Designers and was able to see how they interpret a brief from a client, working on some smaller projects, such as leaflet and flyer design, as well as some logo design. More recently I worked for a week as an Art Department Assistant on the film “Great Expectations” due for release in 2012. I worked with a small group of art assistants under the art director and I was shown how to read drawing elevations for set design, and given the chance to create my own set models from their designs. As well as this, I was able to watch filming, walk around the sets, and look at the storyboarding process. Please don't hesitate to contact me at any time if you require my services.
