BIOGRAPHY of MICHAEL GERHARDT Michael Gerhardt was born in Evansville, Indiana and lived in Indiana and Michigan before attending Michigan State University, where he played varsity baseball and majored in Marketing, with minors in European History, Economics and French. Mr. Gerhardt subsequently served in the United States Army and then earned an MBA from Indiana University. After working for marketing giants Procter & Gamble, Hanes Hosiery and The Franklin Mint, Mr. Gerhardt ran his own marketing agency. During his business career, Mr. Gerhardt earned distinction for his writing abilities, winning awards for his work in television (2 Clios), radio, print advertising and direct response marketing (2 Benjamin Franklin Awards). He is a frequent guest speaker, has lectured at Indiana University, and has been a guest professor at Temple University and NYU. He has written case studies for the Indiana University Business School as well as a “How to” manual on product development and marketing for The Franklin Mint. Mr. Gerhardt’s first novel, the political thriller Presidential Powers, earned him a Pulitzer Prize nomination in 2000. His second novel, The Lincoln Affair, is historical fiction presenting an alternate description of the last days of Abraham Lincoln’s life. The Rodina Plot, his third novel, is a political thriller about modern day Russia. Mr. Gerhardt’s fourth book, Black Pawn, about Liberia, America’s only colony in Africa, won the prestigious BEST PUBLISHED NOVEL of 2013 awarded by Mensa, as well as taking third prize for Fiction at the Paris International Book Festival. He has also written a screenplay based on Presidential Powers and a stage play based on The Lincoln Affair, a stage play about Dorothy Parker (The Vicious Circle), as well as a stage play based on Black Pawn. He is now working on a new novel about Europe in the 1880’s. Mr. Gerhardt has also edited numerous books for other authors as well as written medical articles for The Dark Report.
