EDUCATION [ 08/00-5/11 ] UAF Fairbanks, AK B.A. Foreign Language Spanish and a Minor: Psychology SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS I am a native Spanish speaker from Puerto Rico. I attended the University of Fairbanks Alaska and graduated with a B.A. in Foreign Language and a minor in Psychology. I have been translating from a very young age for my family as well as other non-English speakers. My parents got married at a very young age and my father joined the military when I was one month old. The first place we moved to was Germany and my mother did not know English or German. By the age of five I learned English, Spanish, and a little bit of German. For a while I was my mother's personal translator and later one I helped her learn English. When we came to the US my parents became religious and I would often be called upon to be a personal translator for any non-English speaker in the church. Later my parents became pastors and my duties as a personal translator switched to public translator. As my father would give the sermon in Spanish I would translate from Spanish to English to the audience. I am currently working in the hospital in the laboratory where my duties include drawing blood from patients for diagnostic testing and I have often been used as a translator for non-English speaking patients. I have also been under subpoena by the court as an impromptu translator because I assisted a court Psychiatrist in speaking with a non-English speaking patient. LANGUAGES Spanish- 1st language, fluently English- 2nd language, fluently

New to the literary employment world, I have experience with writing articles, informational pieces, creative fiction, non-fiction, opinion pieces, blogging, and limited experience with poetry. This experience was gained through personal writings done for many years, my college career, tutoring others upon my graduation, and my recent dabbling in blogging. My blog touches on my many interests: music, film, opinions on controversial topics, humor, etc, and is also a means to get my original pieces into the world. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Child and Family Studies. I am going on my 4th year in the mental health field and thus have earned the title of a Qualified Mental Retardation Professional for my work specifically with the intellectual/developmental disability population. While I have enjoyed this, writing has always been my underlying passion. My goal is to eventually be able to support myself solely with my writing.

I live on a narrowboat with my dog Bongo and, of course, my husband, who has worked as a journalist for over 25 years. As we spend our days floating around the waterways of England, I now have the time to sit back and put my thoughts to paper.
