APPLICABLE EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Worked outside of the IT field, mainly in the food industry. Currently working in production at Cole’s Quality Foods in Muskegon, MI 2007-Present Senior Software Engineer, Broadway Systems, Grand Rapids, MI 08/2006-12/2006 Performed bug fixes, added enhancements and performed testing for an existing broadcast television software package that was written in Windows Forms/C#, SQL Server and Microsoft Access. Senior Software Engineer, CriTech Research, Saline, MI 01/2006-06/2006 Served as a technical lead/architect and lead programmer on a contract Java project for a plug-in to existing blood bank software. Then served as project manager and lead programmer on a second Java plug-in project for the same company and software package. Senior Software Engineer, The Solutions Group, Ann Arbor, MI 09/2004-02/2006 Served as technical lead and lead programmer/architect on a project to replace and re-engineer the business process for The Compensation Advisory Organization of Michigan/Michigan Workers Compensation Placement Facility. This project moved their business software from a mini-computer based COBOL program to a distributed Windows .Net platform. This software re-architected many business processes and increased employee productivity by approximately 15%. Served as the lead programmer on a .Net application to re-engineer and automate the creation and receipt of required shipping documents such as shipping schedules, advance shipping notices and bills of lading. The application then produced a recommended production schedule to meet the requirements of the received shipping schedules. This application was a key to the company receiving their Ford Q-1 rating. This project included developing a handheld system with scanner for use in the plant. The result led to approximately a 30% increase in productivity in the shipping of the products and production scheduling. Senior Consultant, Pluribus Solutions, Novi, MI 03/2001-09/2004 Defunct? Worked on a web based solution, CMHLink, and helped re-engineer the business processes for the Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency. This web-based application replaced a commercial desktop application they were using that did not meet their needs. It also opened up the WCCMHA system to providers for the first time. Managers estimated that this application increased productivity at least 10-15% and provided a valuable service to their providers. Served as the programmer and webmaster for the Wayne County Airport Authority, which runs the Detroit Metro and Willow Run Airports. Senior Software Engineer, Interface Systems/Tumbleweed Communications, Ann Arbor, MI Defunct 05/2000-01/2001 Worked on all aspects of a commercial application, developed in Java using eXtreme Programming methodologies, which converted mainframe print streams to PDF, HTML and XML formats. This application was later sold by Tumbleweed Communications, after the purchase of Interface Systems, to a competitor because they wished to get the technology we were using because it was actually superior to theirs. Tumbleweed Communications had only wanted our technology, our software engineers and our methodology for use in their business of secure email and did not want to be in the field of mainframe print stream conversion. Senior Software Engineer, Advanced Systems International, Southfield, MI Defunct 08/1998-05/2000 Served as the Application Architect, Technical Lead and Lead Programmer for a new warehouse data collection system called ATLink. ATLink interfaced with SAP and Wonderware systems using DCOM, Microsoft Transaction Server and Message Queue, as well as handheld and forklift mounted terminals with long range scanning capability, for the warehouse data collection. The application resulted in an engine that interfaced with SAP that was reusable on subsequent projects at the company. The first customer, Imperial Tobacco of Canada, estimated about a 10-20% increase in warehouse productivity and the almost virtual elimination of errors in the system because of the elimination of manual worker data input. Software Engineer - Senior Software Engineer, South Wind Design, Ann Arbor, MI Defunct 02/1994-07/1998 Developed ODBC drivers and other commercial products using Visual C++. The main databases targeted by the ODBC drivers were Microsoft SQL Server and Pervasive Software’s Pervasive.SQL and Btrieve. Btrieve/Pervasive Software had originally meant for this ODBC driver to be a “check the box” item to their software. However, it became so important to their customers as the main means of connecting their software to the Btrieve databases they used in their products, that Pervasive Software felt they had to bring the development in house and fully under their control. My high school education in Graphic Design as well as my co-op program in high school has inspired me to continue Graphic Design at college level. I am currently a Graphic Design student at Centennial College Centre for Creative Communications located in Toronto, Ontario. I have been studying Graphic Design for about two years. I was interested in Graphic Design from a young age; I recall my grade six teacher asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said Graphic Designer; perhaps it was my dad’s profession that had influenced me and I didn’t even know since I grew up around dad’s expertise on computers from the time I was born. I had and have a passion for creativity and the enjoyment of drawing by hand therefore, incorporate my drawings onto the computer is gratifying especially when making them digital. As a Graphic Designer I enjoy using Photoshop to distort or restore photos as well as illustrator to make vector art and even 3dsmax for the 3d art. Due to my creativity abilities and multitude of skills I have been recommended and encouraged by classmates to seek a position as a website designer. I consider myself to be a hard worker, responsible, honest, punctual, work well with others in a group setting or individually, fast learner and I really enjoy working with computer and by hands.

I earned my degree in Mass Communication at Lamar University in 1988. I have practical experience as a writer and reporter for the Orange Leader and Southwest Daily News in Louisiana. In Des Moines, Iowa, I was a free-lance writer for The Iowan magazine and The Des Moines Register. I have also done typesetting and clerical jobs. LEAH C. RUSSELL 1535 Liberty, Apt. B Beaumont, Texas 77701 monkeycarkeys@yahoo.com Dear Sir or Madam: I am ready, willing, and able to reenter the workforce and be an invaluable asset to your company. The best way to describe my work history is chronological order, which will also show my backbone, and fortitude. My career in print journalism began for me in college at the University Press and Scene and Sound followed by the Beaumont Enterprise internships. This time period included a series of articles on the homeless published first for the Press and later in the Orange Leader along with their articles. The series won First Place in the Texas Gulf Coast Press Association for the Leader. Concern in the community from the articles caused a shelter to be opened in Orange. I investigated series and issues most would not touch as a young cub reporter, many assigned to me, and handled it well for one so young at 21-years-old. I took a brave risk again at 21, newly married, and fresh out of college in 1989 and grabbed a temporary position at the Southwest Daily News. With only two sources given, I found many other sources, did many fresh feature articles, helped in layout, design, and helped with rewrites for a 36-page tabloid on Lake Charles Contraband Days and an 84-page broadsheet for the City of Sulphur's 75th Anniversary. Based upon my performance, I was hired full-time and permanent with a pay increase as a news feature, investigative reporter who also covered hard, spot, and other news. Before my relocation to Des Moines, Iowa, for my former spouse to study law, I had mostly self-taught and hands-on experience in desk top publishing using such programs as PageMaker. Before I moved to Des Moines, I had established contacts and sources via The Writer's Market. When I arrived, therefore, I was able to hit the ground running as I freelanced for The Iowan and Des Moines Register. When I arrived in Houston from Iowa, I signed up mostly with temp agencies and gained more experience as an Administrative Assistant which began in Des Moines at Drake University. Should you hire me, I would be an asset to your company with fresh eyes and a professional and personal background that I could show you how it could work for you in an interview. I thank you for your time and acceptance of my resume, and await your reply. Very Truly Yours, Leah C. Russell LEAH C. RUSSELL 1535 Liberty, Apt.
