I was born and raised In Lithuania and I have been drawing ever since I was a little girl. I started to take art more seriously after graduating Fine Art school back at home and only then I realised that I want to dedicate my life to art. Therefore I came to England to study and fulfil my dream by becoming a freelance illustrator. My illustrations suggest that I am influenced by art nouveau and old gothic style and I am not denying it, some influences do come from that period of time. I have always admired overly detailed, elegant, realistic illustrations. My inspiration usually comes from photography, fashion trends, modelling, nature, fantasy, animals and mythology. But I still feel very inspired by engraving and etching techniques as well as old masters like Leonardo Da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Arthur Rackham, Salvador Dali, N.C. Wyeth, Edmund Dulac, Lucas Cranach and the 20th century when art made a little more sense. I always preferred working with traditional media over digital. I feel very confident and comfortable when drawing with fine line pens, markers pencils and water colours, but I do not mind using Photoshop every now and then. Usually my chosen palette contains only one or a few colours which make my illustrations quite editorial. Through gentle, delicate and highly detailed drawings I am able to express myself, capture the moment, the nature and everything that inspires me… It is pretty clear that I like to draw forest life, especially trees and flowers. Nature in general is one of my major topics and it is something that I enjoy drawing as well as believe in. By capturing the smallest details using thin, thick, bold line work I am trying to show that there is more to this world, that there is always something beautiful hidden in it and it is our purpose to find it.

I have been teaching art since I graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. My students often ask me when I started drawing and I say, "when I could hold a pencil." I never remember a time when art wasn't a major part of my life, and I always admire the way children gravitate toward it. Picasso said, "Every child is an artist, the problem is to remain one once he grows up." I have found that even in my adult life I need art and creative expression the way a child does. The media I work in includes pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, acrylics and watercolor. My faith influences the subject matter I create. My recent work includes charcoal drawings on brown paper of self portraits and still lifes, watercolors of my travels to Mexico, and pen and ink drawings that incorporate portions of scripture into the faces and shapes of the picture.

Vocally, I am classically trained however , I enjoy singing and writing songs for different genres of music! My talent includes writing upbeat pop songs, soft pop songs, ballads, rock songs, inspirational songs, jazz songs, country songs, educational/children's songs and even rap lyrics! In my 17 years of writing i have written over 300 songs! I still write constantly and have had the pleasure of working with up and coming artists in my area! My writing process: - Tell me what type of song you would like me to write ( if you don't know a genre, tell me what artist or song you would like your song to be similar to) - Do you need lyrics, music, or both? - Lyrics: do you need verses matched to your chorus, chorus matched to you verses, just a hook, or a full song? - I require 1 week to finish any song. If it takes me longer no extra charge to you! ( But i am usually able to complete any song in this time frame) - You dont pay me until you are satisfied with your song - I LOOK FOWARD TO CREATING YOUR NEXT HIT! ~ J. Ricks~
