Words have been my passion as long as I can remember. There is never a time when I am not reading at least one book, and have been known to read the backs of food packages while I eat. I watch movies with the subtitles on. I study grammar and linguistics for fun. In short, I am a word geek. What surprised me when I started editing is how much research is involved. It's a rare project that requires me to look up nothing, be it the correct spelling of a word or a concept unfamiliar to me. But I love learning new things, so such research is hardly a chore. I've been editing for nearly a decade, but have just recently started seeking out freelance work. I'm especially interested in editing books and novels, though I welcome smaller projects as well.

I have worked for 30 years designing and drawing buildings from houses, to factories, hospitals to apartment high risers. Now I prefer to measure existing buildings especially of the kind that have historical value so that it can be published in CAD format. I can work from PDF's and give the drawings out in .dxf files. Recently I have measured one of Cape Town's oldest buildings and produced that in CAD drawings. The orginal building plans were lost on this building and the latest drawings were inacurate, hence it was difficult to plan any work that the developers had in mind. I prefer to measure up in Cape Town and will do drawings from other documents in any other place.

Although my professional background is in business writing, I have always enjoyed writing creatively, and I have been writing fictional books my whole life. I recently completed my latest book and I am now in the process seeking publication. I have also begun writing blog style articles for a specific publication that comes out each month (check out my portfolio!) I am excited to continue to grow my creative writing skills through new outlets such as blogging and article writing, as well as expanding my original field of interest, book writing. I have been writing business documents for the last several years. While getting my Master's in Business Administration, I wrote the business plan for a non-profit I co-founded. I also wrote grants to try and help support the non-profit, partnership/project proposals, contracts and solicitation letters. Currently, I work as a Business Systems Analyst where I am responsible for gathering project requirements through interviews and research while analyzing the best possible solutions. My output for each project is to produce thorough documentation of the requirements and any risks, constraints and assumptions associated to the project.
