My name is Barbara Outterson. I have been doing vocal performance since age 6 in various choral and church settings, worked as a church cantor from ages 18-22, attended and performed with the David Hochstein Music School in multiple Broadway musicals between ages 17 & 25. Beginning at age 16, I became a member of the Rochester Opera Theatre as a chorus member and went on to attend Roberts Wesleyan College from ages 21-24 as a Vocal Performance and Pedagogy major. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy and studied under Judith Coen of the Metropolitan Opera. I sang multiple principle roles in various operatic performances during my academic career. Upon graduation I opened my own voice studio. I became the Director of Music at Wake Forest Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 1999 and am currently employed there as the vocal and piano instructor. My vocal technique focuses upon a healthful voice; both in speech and singing. I performed as a soprano, soloist, and chorus manager for the North Carolina Master Chorale from 2000-2011 and coached several members as a vocal instructor. My focus is a versatile and healthy speaking and singing voice and I feel that I can provide exceptional quality as vocal talent for various projects.

I remember my mother telling me I was born with a pencil in my hand. I knew she was joking but she did manage to save all my doodles that I created when I was just 3 years old. It would only be a couple years later that I would proclaim my life's ambition to be an artist (and I was only in kindergarten).
