Emma Wilson Curriculum Vitae NATIONALITY: British QUALIFICATIONS: University of Central Lancashire BA (Hons) Journalism (2002 – 2005) York Sixth Form College 3 A Levels grade B-C & 1 AS Level grade B (2000 – 2002) Canon Lee School, York 9 GCSEs including English & Mathematics (1995 -2000) SOFTWARE (BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERT): Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, QuarkXpress, Cool Edit Pro, all Microsoft Office programs. PERSONAL PROFILE: I am punctual, a hard worker and I am able to adapt to different situations quickly. In addition to my current role I feel my previous jobs have contributed towards my life experience, as they have given me solid people and customer service skills, and the ability to work within a team and also by myself if required. All the jobs I have had improved me as a person and given me valuable experience in a variety of situations. I am keen to progress my career further, and I feel that I would be a key asset to any team. I am ready for a new challenge, and I want to be a part of a thriving team. CAREER HISTORY: Freelance Writer/Blogger – January 2014 – present Through my blog, Mrs Wilson’s Wedding, I write wedding features and work with a range of national and international companies to promote their upcoming events or products. I have upwards of 200 views a week on my blog, and have worked with Avon, Clinique, Royal Mint, Dove, National Wedding Show, leading psychologists, Cedar Court Grand Hotel, Coca-Cola, Wedding Rings Direct and Wish Want Wear. The Press Association Designer (February 2011 – January 2014) I designed the page layouts of best-selling IPC magazines 'Chat' and 'Pick Me Up'. The magazines we produced are monthly specials, and in total, I designed around 140 pages per month, all of which go to press. My role varied; one day I was designing a front cover, the next I was helping the art editor design a prototype layout for a new customer. No day was the same; I could be designing puzzles, writing content for our exclusive IPC specials range, or training new staff members. I implemented new ways to make the workflow easier on our team, and also redesigned one of the magazines single-handedly. I trained up work experience students who have spent time in our department to gain experience in an art design environment, and mentored a junior designer, who is now thriving in her role. Organisational skills are essential in this role, as are people skills. Due to a wide range of customers, I needed to speak to them all in a professional manner, while also building a good rapport with them. I felt I had a good working relationship with all our clients, and our magazines are proof of that. The Press Association Multimedia Production Journalist (September 2007 – February 2011) In this role I worked across all of the PA's news desks, from Digital News which meant writing and subbing live copy as well as providing videos and images for all online customers; to the Features Desk, writing travel features and book reviews; and Tailored News Feeds which meant each story had to be bespoke to each customer's requirements. In all departments speed and accuracy were essential. One other department I worked on was Regional Newswire, and I even managed to cover regional news in England (including the 2010 General Election coverage) while on a secondment in Bangalore, India for 3 months. My role varied from week-to-week, even day-to-day on some occasions, and I had to be prepared to adapt accordingly. Before ITV's Teletext service ceased transmission in late 2010, I covered the regional news and entertainment output. I also acted up as editor of Teletext Entertainment on a regular basis, training colleagues and delegating work. I also implemented new ideas and ways to help the workload on the desk. I sub-edited and rewrote features, news stories and TV listings for the service, which produced a vast amount of work every day. The Press Association Listings Producer (April 2006 – September 2007) Subbing TV listings copy onto print-ready templates for IPC's What's On TV magazine. The role required excellent English skills and an ability to work to strict customer style in a deadline driven environment. CIS Press Trainee Media Sales (January 2006 – April 2006) Selling and promoting CIS Press products, business to business. Essential skills required were: maintaining a professional company image; prioritising my workload on a daily basis; maintaining confidentiality at all times; working under pressure to meet deadlines. HOBBIES: I enjoy shopping, socialising with friends and family, travelling, and reading, especially autobiographies, biographies and crime novels. After planning my own wedding, I am an event management boffin, and really enjoy organising social events for my family and friends. I enjoy writing, especially the freelance travel and book review work I have done for the Press Association features wire, which is very rewarding. I also have my own wedding blog - mrswilsonswedding.wordpress.com - that is designed to help brides (pre and post wedding). I have worked with several PR firms to help promote their products and clients on my blog, which has given me a wide range of contacts (and very helpful advice). I also really enjoy cooking and baking (Nigella is my heroine, and my chocolate brownies are an office favourite), and I enjoy interior design, as well as making clothes using vintage patterns and materials.

At thirty five years old I am returning to college for the second time with a look toward economic philosophy. In the years intervening I have worked in that fashion so often attributed to authors and poets. That is to say my life experience encompasses more than most. I have worked in the manufacture of aircraft and refitting of aircraft for Eclipse Aviation. That job was available because prior to Eclipse I worked as Topman and a Senior Crewman for airship companies like High Degree Operations and the Lightship Group. If you happened to see a sporting event like golf or college football with aerial photography provided by Snoopy 1 or 2 (met-life ) or any of the Saturn airships and the ING and Outback ships too, chances are good I had and hand in it. In addition to learning the basics of air-frame modification and maintenance I also acted as liaison between the RF receivers on the ground and the directors and producers of whatever network might be broadcasting the event. These experiences, with just a splash of nepotism, landed me in the Film Mechanics Union (AITSE) local #480 in New Mexico, working with Art Directors as a Set Painter and Utility Tech for the films "No Country For Old Men" and "Gamer" among others. Those jobs were valuable to be sure but there are many other people and places I have been fortunate enough to meet and enjoy out side of work, in the business of life if you will. Like any wanderer I have been to the murky depths of human desperation, fighting for the rights to a dumpster for dinner, too, I have seen the glories of a life well lived culminating at pinnacles and towers of new nobility. All of this makes my perspective rare and my insights worth hearing. From the shame of the downtrodden to the veiled guilt and insecurity of the rich I have watched and learned, always looking for experience I have yet to gain, reaching for the images and words to put them on paper. Now my wanderlust is sated, at least for now, and I can speak to almost any state of being and its redemption, its desecration or its fulfillment.
