Fran Thornton Details Date of birth: 24/11/1983 Address: 19 Sidney Street, Grantham, NG31 9BQ Email: franthornton1@hotmail.com Contact: 07794 354 021 Statement I am a hard working designer and illustrator who is technically pro?cient in classic draft techniques as well as having an excellent understanding of printmaking methods including screen print and etching. Since graduating I have worked as a design consultant gaining valuable commercial experience working on global projects for high profile clients such as Disney and P&O as well as smaller, local businesses at my current employment. I am a cheerful and approachable person who enjoys working as part of a team but am equally capable of working own my own. I am always eager to learn new skills and apply myself to my full potential. I am punctual, honest and reliable. Skills I have an excellent knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, Freehand and Indesign. Other programmes I have a basic knowledge of are Flash and Dreamweaver and am keen to learn more in order to further my personal and professional progress. Work Experience Print Bureau Ltd Feb 2011 - Present Head of Design I am responsible for all design and illustration work. Creating stationary and promotional material as well as fascias for local shops, bars and businesses. Projects Entire re working of Totemic’s staff training guide as well as presentation booklets and large-scale artworks to be placed in situ at their offices in England and Portugal including translation changes. This meant keeping in very close contact with project managers and owners to maintain the brand’s core ethics while including all the necessary information. Freelance UK Hair & Holistics June 10’ – Present Logos and packaging design for holistic therapy products and ongoing promotional work for the website. Freelance The Union Nov 10’ - present Ongoing artwork for sale at a well established Art & Design house. Lenco International Ltd Feb 09’ - June 10’ Design Consultant Whilst at Lenco it was my job to realise a client’s brief to an excellent standard. This included designing logos, complex diagrams, wayfinding material, shop and business fascias, posters, leaflets and illustrations. Projects I re-branded several shops restaurants and public areas on P&O cruise ships. I had to understand the client’s brief, analyse the target population and produce designs that were fit for purpose. I had to complete a number of large way-finding signs that had to be technically accurate and designed so they could be understood by people from many different countries and compliant with DDA legislation. The designs and signage I created were then constructed according to the details provided by me to the manufacturer. This taught me the importance of communication, not only from a business/ customer perspective but also from the creative consultancy to the manufacturing yard. I have also gained an excellent knowledge of guidelines put in place to account for legibility of signage and access for disability. During my time at Lenco any unusual projects or sales responses were assigned to me due to my creative ability. I enjoyed the challenge of brainstorming and coming up with ideas in order to win work and satisfy my clients. Education While at university I took full advantage of the facilities in order to gain maximum experience in all aspects of design, it was while I was in my final year at university that I was commended by Northern design for a competition entry. Lincoln University BA Hons: Illustration 2:1 grade Commendation from Northern Design (competition brief) Lincoln College of Fine Art and Design Foundation Course Pass Kings School, Grantham A-levels in both Art and English Literature 10 GCSE’s with grades A-C (including English and maths) Aspirations My intention for the immediate future is to be the best designer that I can be, and to learn as many techniques in order to be among the best in the ?eld. In the long run I intend to be well respected amongst my peers for the work that I have done and to be in demand for the work that I create and produce. To work my way up to the position of creative director at a well-respected design house would be ideal as I always wish to be surrounded by other creatives and be involved at the cutting edge of design. I have been writing for a company called Need An Article,(NAA,) for more than two years, have extensive knowledge in many different fields. If you need an article on green living, I have written many articles on solar power, wind turbines, hydro electric, and even bio-diesel. In addition, I know a lot about green living in general, from recycling to using common house hold products like lemons, vinegar, and baking soda, just to name a few. Writing for NAA I have been able to do a lot of different things. I write about travel, camping, and even virtual tours of many parts of the world, from the plains of South Africa, to the jungles of Thailand. I also have written many articles about yachts. One of my favorite subjects to write about is relationships and advice about how to make relationship work, what to look for in an abusive relationship, and how to restore the one you have. These are just a few of the many subjects I am familiar with. I have also written much information about model trains, RC vehicles of all shapes and sizes, depression, natural remedies for anxiety, as well as many others. While NAA is a writing service, and the clients have total control over the articles I write, if you want a sample of some of the article I have done, I have published works at a website called Examiner.com, under the 'Green Living' section of the site.
