Bio In 1976, the famous sculptor, Elisabeth Gordon Chandler, N.A., saw Jeff Damberg's work during his first week at the Academy, and offered Jeff a full working-scholarship with stipend and housing. For the next years, Jeff studied with teachers who taught at The Art Students League, and were members of The National Academy. In studio classes Jeff learned Portrait and Figure Painting from the renowned portrait artist, Robert Brackman, N.A.. Brackman taught what he had learned decades earlier from his teacher, the famous Impressionist, Robert Henri. Brackman was a world-renowned portrait artist whose formal portraits include Charles Lindbergh; members of the Rockefeller family; the Board of Directors of RCA; and also the portraits featured in the Hollywood production "The Portrait of Jennie". He is listed in The History Britannica as the finest pastel painter since Edgar Degas and Mary Cassatt. Jeff studied Portrait Sculpture with Mrs. Chandler, whose public works can be seen at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan; Figure Sculpture with Michael Lance, N.A.; and drawing with Harold Goodwin. Jeff graduated with an excellent standing at the Academy, with marks of "Excellent" in a letter written from Brackman, (Lyme Academy, like the Art Students League did not assign grades.) During his years at Lyme Academy, Jeff also co-taught still-life classes at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. After graduation, Jeff lived and worked from a loft in SOHO, New York, NY, then joined with artist friends to develop an artists' loft community in Stamford, CT, later known as The Stamford Loft Artists' Association. A Daily News article about the new art community featured one of Jeff's seascapes, celebrating "the new Stamford SOHO". Jeff was later invited to live and work at The Bush-Holley House in Cos Cob, CT, the site of the original artists' colony of the Impressionists. Experimenting with Expressionism, Jeff became part of the Abstract Expressionist group called "New New", spear-headed by noted art critic and author, Dr. Kenworth Moffett, then the curator for The Boston Museum of Fine Art, and overseen by renowned art critic, Clement Greenberg, the famous advocate of Jackson Pollock's work. He gave Jeff's art a favorable critique, saying that if his paintings were hanging in Manhattan, it would be the finest show in the city. Conceptual Abstract was the order of the day, however, so for new direction, Jeff studied the Old Masters, and painted replicas of Masterworks on commission. Jeff was the lead-in for a New York Times article about mural painters in 1994, and he has been commissioned to paint murals from as far away as Cambridge, England. Jeff's formal portrait commissions include members of the DuPont and Mellon families. He has received referrals for commissioned paintings from The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, NY, and from Dr. Moffett, then the director of The Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art in Florida. Jeff's work has been accepted into art shows too numerous to list, including at The National Academy of Design, New York, NY. His paintings and murals have been featured in numerous publications including Metropolitan Home Magazine; Westchester County's Living and Dining magazine; and the cover of Greenwich Magazine, Greenwich, CT. Jeff has successfully completed over two hundred and fifty commissions throughout the U.S.A.; and in Canada; England; Ireland; Germany; Israel, over half of them portraits. Along with commissions, Jeff does fine art and sculpture restoration: sculpture: oil paintings; frames; murals; gilding. His scholarship at Lyme Academy was awarded by Mrs. Chandler for sculpture, and at the end of each semester, his sculptures were the ones chosen for casting to represent the school. Jeff, and his wife, Joanne are also publishing his favorite original oil paintings into Giclée (ghee-clay) museum-quality prints on canvas. I learned to use colors in new ways and intensity, and tried new approaches to convey time and motion on canvas. This became the foundation of the more realistic work I do now. I believe in painting with the impasto of the brush, to release the paint expressively rather than descriptively, with a flow of color.” Web Addresses: http://www.marblesculpturerepair.com http://www.jeffdamberg.org

I have had a strong passion for writing songs and poems since I was a little boy. Now, 36 I have experimented with all types of creative writing. I am a brick-layer although I would rather write for a living from here on in. I have had numerous poems published, won awards and a couple of my songs are currently being perfected by rock`n roll bands. As I am always wondering `why we are here?` it often reflects on my work with a lot of it based around christianity.
