NORTHERN CROSS is about a black Iraq war vet who takes a stand against vigilantes who **** an illegal immigrant at the California border. Based on research she did for NORTHERN CROSS, Melody is currently directing a documentary with Emmy Award winner Rob Tate about immigration detention centers. Melody’s recent feature screenplay, BREAKING THE FOURTH, a sci fi / action / thriller, is a Winner of the 2010 Woods Hold Film Festival Screenplay Competition, a Feature Screenplay Finalist at 2010 Shriekfest Film Festival, and Best Screenplay nominee (top five) at the 2010 Action On Film Festival. Melody’s most recent project is a high concept thriller about Somali pirates that she has co-written with Austin Film Fest Finalist Jim Stansberry. Melody is also an award-winning, produced NY playwright. Her full-length play, SWEET MERCY, which deals with the genocides in Rwanda and Darfur, won the 2010 SheWrites Festival and will be produced in 2011 at Synchronicity Theater. SWEET MERCY was developed by NY Stage and Film in their Powerhouse series. She received a Ford Foundation grant to travel to Rwanda to develop the play. Her short play TRUTH BE TOLD, a piece focusing on the tragic events surrounding a female Iraqi reporter, was produced by Ensemble Studio Theatre’s 2009 Going to the River Festival, along with work by that year's Pulitzer Prize winner, Lynn Nottage. Other work: Recipient of the Jane Chambers Award for Playwriting for DAY OF RECKONING, a play about the forgotten 19th century black activist Lucy Parsons. DAY OF RECKONING was produced in NYC and at New Theatre in Miami. Her one-act, READING ZIMBABWE, was produced in NYC by Epic Rep at DR2 in an evening of premieres by Lee Blessing and Romulus Linney. Her play ABSOLUTE MAGNITUDE, about four unique female astronomers who clash under highly unusual circumstances, was a Sloan New Play Initiative proposal finalist.

As Creative Director for Roman, Inc., I was responsible for product design and development both here and overseas as well as the creation of product illustration etc. Primarily a manufacturer and importer of religious articles, Roman developed a gift division which became a major force in the industry with my direction. At Nanco Inc., I designed major programs for the souvenir and amusement industry. Many of these generated the largest sales in company history. I was later named Division Manager of the gift division with responsibilities which included budget administration, advertising and product development and overseas sourcing. I began my own company in 1993 creating giftware and home accessories which in only 21 months sales were 4 million, the products were Retired Pearl Angels, Heavenly Angels, Happy Habits, a doll line that was on TV shoppers and a extensive Christmas line.It flourished to over 14 million. I since moved to Florida and operate Rubel and Associates freelance and fine art painting, fanasy art and book illustrations plus go to the Orient often for clients. I handle many retail store consulting. . I completed 16 years of schooling and a honor graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago, and have over 35 years in the industry. I have a very good working relationship with many manufactures in the Orient.
