I am an illustrator and a fine artist. I work mostly in oils and/or digital media. My website is tessaguze.com. As an artist, I am inspired by other living creatures and the many varying ways they live in and perceive the world. I choose to paint subjects to which I have a deep emotional response, whether that response is to feel happy or sad, frightened or comforted. I always sympathize with the underdog, the downtrodden, and the undervalued. I am driven to learn about different cultures and ways of life and my work reflects this. I intend my paintings to help viewers understand and accept people and creatures who seem different from themselves. I want my work to speak to people directly. To this end I strive to bring my subjects to life in such a way that they are immediately comprehensible and the viewer has an opportunity to find some common ground with them. I paint mostly in oil because of the rich complexity of the medium and the variety of techniques it makes possible. These allow me to represent a recognizable natural world, while increasing the interest and emotional impact of the painting with brush strokes, textures and glazes. My hope is that my work can communicate with as wide a range of people as possible, reaching across differences in culture, age, knowledge and personality. I believe the most important thing a work of art can do it communicate with people.

I am a skilled and experienced writer, editor, and administrator. Having spent four years crafting research papers in pursuit of my Bachelor of Arts (2001), in addition to writing for my personal blog since 2008, my written communication skills are finely-tuned. My articles have been accepted for publication in a number of print magazines, including Proverbs 31 Woman (2011), MOMSense (2011) and The Journal of Men and Masculinity (2004). I have been employed in a variety of administrative positions, and have found my employers to be highly satisfied with my meticulous attention to detail, my ability to work independently, and my efficiency in meeting (or preceding) deadlines. I am experienced in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook. As well, I am proficient in Internet navigation and research.
