Juanita Ashby-Bey ashbybey@gmail.com EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY Cultural experiences are central to the learning process and the cultural background of a student is the most valuable tool for effective instruction. A non-bias approach to teaching is critical to student success and achievement and educators who embrace this idea stand to have great impacts on their learners. Cognition is developed through a meta-cognitive process which initiates within the culture of a student, thus learning begins with understanding the cultural norms of students. I graduated for Max the Mutt Animation School in Classical Animation. I worked as an Animation Artist at Big Soul Productions, where I interacted with storyboards on a daily basis, learning the demands of the animator and the story. I then worked for Kaman's Art Shoppe at Canada's Wonderland as a Live Caricature Artist, where I worked for the previous two summer seasons. Here I learned the value of speed and clarity, as well as draftsmanship, and composition. I have also illustrated two children's books for publication through Littleheroes.com, the second book I wrote myself. I learned first how to visualize a story from someone else's script, then to craft my own story, and visualize that.
