I am professional illustrator with over 35 years experience. Some years ago, I was responsible for revamping Thomas the Tank Engine’s image and for creating all the artwork for the worldwide merchandise, including over 30 books, for Random House (NY) and Heinemann (UK). This work was done under the pseudonym ‘Owain Bell’ and some can still be found on the Net. I worked on this character between the years 1986 and 1996 I have been working exclusively digitally for around 8 years. I work in a ‘photorealistic’ style, using Corel Painter (vX) in conjunction with a Wacom 'Touch' tablet and pressure sensitive stylus. Although my work is often mistaken for photographs, I do not use photographs for anything other than reference. All artwork is painted in the same way as with traditional media. Currently, I design postage stamps for the WWF Stamp Collection. One of these works won the Grand Prize in the Corel Asia Pacific Digital Art Competition 2011. I am a fan of all styles of artwork and I like to see how I've handled different approaches and uses of media, sometimes combining more than one. I prefer to work one step of approval at a time so that there is no confusion and things flow smoother.

I am a traditional artist working with pencil (graphite and colored), watercolors (my favorite), and occasionally oils and acrylics. I enjoy landscapes the most, but can do most any subject matter some better than others. I also do 3D modeling and logo designs, and I have done lots of freelance work editing photos. Another area of creative output I enjoy is writing children's stories, poetry, and other short stories.
