Hi! I'm a 2012 graduate from Otterbein University with a Bachelor's degree in English Literary Studies and Sociology. It was through my position as Editor-in-Chief of my high school's newspaper that made me fall in love with writing & editing. During my freshman year at Otterbein, I worked with Dr. Jeremy Smith of the English Department proofreading and editing a book manuscript. The job also included other smaller tasks like checking sources, creating footnotes and transcribing interviews. I also provided feedback—as a reader—of some changes that were necessary or places and moments in the texts that were powerful. Today the book in published and I am honored to have been a part of the process. The experience of editing Dr. Smith’s manuscript led me to volunteer at the 10 Day Book Club editing and proofreading manuscripts. The 10 Day Book Club reassured me of my passion for writing and editing. Through Otterbein’s America Reads Program I was able to tutor third graders in Avalon Elementary School in Columbus, Ohio. I worked one-on-one with two students in vocabulary, reading and writing. I also had the opportunity to work with a group of six students focusing on reading and group work. I provided daily feedback on the student’s progress and noted any moments of struggle for the students. I have also been published in Otterbein’s Literary Magazine, Quiz & Quill, received the Lovejoy Prize in Sociology and was the recipient of the 2010-2011 Paula Peters Endowment Award. Otterbein is a six year winner of the Award with Distinction on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. I can proudly say that I have been serving my community for four of those years through Otterbein’s community service programs. Again, I am a recent graduate with a record of dedication and hardwork! I'm self-motivated and always ready to start new projects! Thanks, Sarah
