My name is Joseph Devens, and I am a cartoonist/illustrator. From 2002 to 2008, my comic strip "Whale" was published in The Daily Texan newspaper on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, where I held the position of comics editor. It was highly acclaimed, won several scholastic awards, and placed in the finals of the 2008 Charles M. Schulz Contest presented by the Scripps-Howard Foundation. My work has been described as edgy, surreal, and satirical. My intent as a cartoonist is to make people laugh, and my illustrations are engaging and clever.
