The following is your resume. Since I've been editor in chief (1994), every word in every printed magazine as well as all of our online work -- www.rermag.com -- has been proofread by me. Resume for editor/writer Michael Roth A professional journalist with more than 30 years of experience, who goes after the truth, conducts interviews, and researches with intense dedication. I am editor in chief of RER, also known as Rental Equipment Register. I joined the staff in 1989 and have been editor in chief since 1994. I write six to eight cover stories a year, do much of the photography, write blogs, write 50 to 100 news stories per month, write and produce three newsletters a week, write editorial “From the Editor” column and copy edit the entire magazine as well as the newsletters. I have one other editor who works with me. Our website is www.rermag.com . I am also a copy editor with a thorough and fluid command of the English language and exacting attention to detail. My professional history: 1981 – 1989: A free-lance journalist contributing to the Boston Globe, Albuquerque Journal, L.A. Weekly, L.A. Reader, Hispanic Monitor and others. 1989 – present: Editor-in-chief of RER (Rental Equipment Register), a magazine and website covering the equipment rental industry. I began as managing editor in 1989, and became editor in chief in 1994. RER, founded in 1957, covers the construction equipment rental industry, now a nearly $40 billion annual industry. My duties every month include deciding the editorial content of the magazine and the website, writing much of the content and directing the editorial staff, working closely with our art director, and proofreading everything. We put out three electronic newsletters per week and post content on our website almost daily. We have won awards such as Neal Awards, Maggie Awards and ASBPE Awards and I have spoken to industry groups in the United States, Canada, Mexico, El Salvador, Russia and others. Following are a few samples of my work, beginning with a copy of our bi-weekly newsletter, and following with a few of my cover stories. http://enewspro.penton.com/preview/rer/RER-02/20130624_RER-02_164/display http://rermag.com/business-info-analysis/engines-change http://rermag.com/rental-profiles/national-trench-safety-focuses-safety-trenches http://rermag.com/business-info-analysis/rer-100-top-rental-equipment-companies-2012-article-very-good-year http://rermag.com/mag/after-flood A sample of my blogs: http://rermag.com/blog/impressive-things-about-bauma Print clips are available upon request. I am a hard working individual interested in the world of art and design. I have recently graduated from University and currently working as a freelance Illustrator and Graphic Artist, I am keen to break into the industry and start building and honing my skills to become the best that I can be. I am passionate and driven, with a good work ethic. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS Education and Qualifications Studied at Chalfont Community College, and Buckinghamshire New University • BA Hons Graphic Arts (2:1) • Foundation In Art and Design (merit) • AS Level in General Studies, A Level in Art, Digital Art, and English Literature. • GCSE’s in Art and Design, English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Wood Technology, Science (double), French, ICT (double), and Religious Education Key Achievements Throughout my studies art and design has always been my main interest. My foundation in art and design gave me access to a wide variety of different art forms, such as model making, graphic design, fine art and surface design. During the course I was able to experience each, working in a variety of different ways. It was during this year that I became certain my future was within the area of graphic arts and illustration. For my degree I was able to experience various sides of graphic arts, including typography, layout design, branding, illustration, and animation. I was also able to experience how graphic design works in relation to the advertising world. During my degree I wrote my dissertation on the methods of animation and whether traditional methods still hold relevance with the technology of today. Through my research I gained a good understanding of the nature of animation and film making, and where it might be taken in the future. SKILL SET Strong conceptual drawing and development Confident presenter Writing skills (instructive and creative) Mac and PC friendly Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, and Flash Basic understanding of After Effects Toon Boom Studio Microsoft Office Photography WORK EXPERIENCE AND EMPLOYMENT Company Number 9 Studios (Art Department Assistant) 3 week Placement Nov 2011 Artistic Licence UK (Caricature Artist) March-November 2011 Chalfont Community College (Art Technician) 2008-2009 Paul Mitchell Design (Graphic Design Intern) 2 Week Placement 2004 "Excellent Artist and member of the team. "Liam was superb in every way. He was responsive, timely and delivered exactly what he said he would. He listens really well and above all his illustrations are incredible. I have no hesitation in recommending him" -Vanessa Anstee (Freelance Client) EXPERIENCE Whilst at University I had the opportunity to work on a number of live briefs, coming into contact with advertising agencies. In my first year of University I acted as a team leader for a live brief entitled “Jamie Oliver’s Good Food” set by William Murray Hamm. I then had the opportunity to work on a number of competition briefs during my time at university, including; “Write and Illustrate a Children’s Book” – Macmillan “Create a Disney Character” - DNAD “James and the Giant Peach”- Penguin During my final year at university I was able to visit New York, and a number of creative design agencies in the city, to get an idea of the way in which agencies will be approached by a client, and the various stages a project might go through. These included; The Chopping Block Stardust Imaginary Forces Brand New School Saatchi & Saatchi X After finishing university I began working as a full time caricature artist for Artistic Licence UK. During my time working there I came into contact with a variety of different people, from different backgrounds and of different ages on a daily basis. I was drawing up to 50 caricatures a day and therefore had to adapt to working at a fast and steady pace. I have also undertook some work experience with Paul Mitchell Design, during my two weeks here I worked as part of a small team of Graphic Designers and was able to see how they interpret a brief from a client, working on some smaller projects, such as leaflet and flyer design, as well as some logo design. More recently I worked for a week as an Art Department Assistant on the film “Great Expectations” due for release in 2012. I worked with a small group of art assistants under the art director and I was shown how to read drawing elevations for set design, and given the chance to create my own set models from their designs. As well as this, I was able to watch filming, walk around the sets, and look at the storyboarding process. Please don't hesitate to contact me at any time if you require my services.
