I'm an ambitious girl that enjoys nature and loves to sketch weird little things In my spare time. Pretty, disturbing and intersting would best describe my style of art. When im not obsessing over style blogs or watching cartoons all day, Im thinking of my next idea and how I can put my strange mind onto paper.

i am a self-taught artist hailing from the vibrant downtown community of barrio viejo in tucson, arizona. i prefer to depict strong female protagonists in noir-like dystopian universes. my femmes fatale will oftentimes be in the true position of power that has been denied them in a historical context: the daredevil dame taking a shot at the apple on her fella's head, in "our william tell act", (turning the accidental shooting of joan vollmer, william s. burrough's wife, on its ear); the depiction of "eve" (with reference to billie holiday) as a provocative and unapologetic social martyr, with a fig-canopy halo; an empowered "tattooed lady" sideshow performer from the 1930s, who embraced her lifelong differences (heterochromia) and became embellished to further set herself apart, in "curio"; the tough as nails, tattooed punker with a cigarette butt halo, who bears a black eye proudly, not from domestic violence but from a penchant for getting into barroom brawls in "barroom martyr". these women gaze confidently and are not driven to extremes out of desperation but by their own will. in my works, women will experience hard knocks but they are sure to knock back harder. present in her work are recurring themes of tattoos, mermaids, dia de los muertos, anatomical hearts, skulls, fruit, roots and leaves. the 'las coronas' series followed up a two year painting hiatus, after which i refined and redefined my painting style tremendously: from a heavily outlined, tattoo flash/ pop art style to a more precise, realism-based approach. the series has a unifying factor of head, hair and halo embellishment- either signifying some inner thoughts/secrets/desire or merely used simply as an aesthetic decoration. for each of the ten paintings, i created a companion hat, headpiece or hairpiece to be worn by wandering models throughout the opening reception. i am currently in the beginning stages of creating a new series about circus and sideshow performers, referencing characters from angela carter's novel, nights at the circus. i encourage you to bring me your ideas for custom/commissioned pieces. to date i've done remembrance portraits (pets and people), glamor portraits, illustration, band posters, tattooed mannequin displays, sticker, t-shirt, business card, cd art, and tattoo design, as well as simply running with someone else's idea to make their dream work of art. it's always fascinating to me to look back on these projects and realize how much a collaboration they actually were. despite making sure that every piece of art that leaves me is truly my own, these works would have never come into being with out the client. i love that. if you're interested in something custom for you, your band or your business please contact me for price quotes or just to talk something over. cheers, anna
