Though I was born in a small Ukrainian village in 1987, the only place I have ever called home is Chicago, Illinois. Since my family’s immigration to the United States from the former Soviet Union in 1989, I have had the fortune of experiencing the arts in multifaceted ambiances, cultures, and genres throughout my life, thus coming to understand that my passion for expression through the arts allows no room for self-limitation. My grandfather, renowned artist Yury Kanzburg, has served as my most inspirational and critical instructor from the earliest stages of my artistic education. Through traditional old-world training and the study of composition, value, line, color, and form, I learned to appreciate and apply the essential elements of art and design. Experimenting with gouache, watercolors, tempera, oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastels, ink, and graphite in my compositions from a very young age, I became quickly comfortable with a vast array of media and various techniques. By re-creating the works of masters such as Rembrandt, Da Vinci, and Goya, as well as sketching constantly to quickly capture the essence of the natural world, I was able to develop the skill and patience necessary to work between arduous, detailed studies, while concurrently building the ability to swiftly capture ephemeral instants in time. Insistent that I have a strong foundation and skill base before delving into my conceptual work, my grandfather exposed me to the rudiments which constitute my personal understanding of the multifaceted nature of contemporary visual culture. A simultaneous desire to teach and thirst to learn compelled me to earn my BFA in Fine Arts and Art Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in the spring of 2011. My 6-12 teaching certificate is supplemented by an English endorsement, allotting me the aptitude to merge both artistic and linguistic domains. I have acquired substantial experience in the secondary education field and have had the opportunity to teach hundreds of aspiring young artists from within and around the Chicago metropolis. I place great emphasis on considering the visual and literary arts within cultural and historical contexts through extensive investigation of various wet, dry, and digital two and three-dimensional media, methods, and practices, as well as consistent critical analysis of diverse subject matter, concepts, and interpretations. Inquiry-based discourse and the dissection of aesthetic, technical, and conceptual elements in the works of practicing historical and contemporary artists and authors are equally essential in my mission to make meaningful inter-vocational associations. I am constantly seeking new and diverse opportunities to submerge myself in settings that have the capacity to drive me in developing as an artist, teacher, and perpetual learner, while simultaneously providing an environment saturated with creative energy that is ready to be absorbed.

I am a digital artist and a designer able to work in varied styles depending on what is required for the project at hand. Prices are quoted based on the amount of hours that will be put in. If you are interested in my portfolio, you can view it at: http://emiliapaw5.deviantart.com/ My workflow is as follows: 1. You may brief me via email and we will communicate to ensure that I understand what your requirements are for the commission. 2. I will do a few rough thumbnail sketches according to the brief and you can choose the one that you like. 3. You can then send me half the payment or the full payment if you are comfortable enough after I send you a neater, more detailed sketch based on the thumbnail that you chose. If you are happy with it I will begin painting. If not, I will make changes until you are happy. 4. I will send you work in progress once the painting is halfway done (for more changes etc.) 5. Once I receive the rest of the payment I will send you the completed piece.

I've written tons of poetry on many subjects for many years. (It's a great way to get relief from stress!) I've also written colorful children's stories for the very young, preschool, and for 7-9 year olds that are educational without sounding preachy. Articles of newsworthy merit have been and can be written. I can make your product come alive with little words to attract potential buyer's interest. Striving to make words dance with meaning and to quickly capture the reader's interest is my primary goal.
