Elaine Burkhardt is the owner of Newsgroup Communications, an advertising and
public relations firm that has represented a wide variety of clients in diverse industries since
1991. Ms. Burkhardt is a writer, editor, publisher and marketing campaign strategist. Work
includes branding companies, creating marketing campaigns, media relations, community
relations, all collateral print production, print advertising, television, radio, video production,
website consulting, media buying and magazine and book publishing.
Prior to forming Newsgroup, Ms. Burkhardt was director of public relations at
Brown Bloyed and Associates, a Tulsa ad/pr firm. Before joining Brown Bloyed, she was
Editor and Publisher of Tulsalite Magazine and Editor and writer for the Tulsa World, where
she produced a weekly magazine as well as several special book projects. She has written and
published three cookbooks, one entertainment book, one book of poetry and numerous
magazines, including business magazines, cardiology magazines, legal assistant magazines
and special city publications, such as Inside Tulsa.
Ms. Burkhardt has also written and produced several television shows, including
Surviving Your Heart Attack, which won a Telly Award and Go Figure, a children’s television
program produced for Phillips Petroleum Company, which won a regional Emmy Award.
Newsgroup has also won many Healthcare Marketing Awards and Addy Awards.
Clients have included Oklahoma Heart Institute, Hillcrest Healthcare Systems,
Nordam, Tulsa Economic Development, Material Girls, BSW Architects, Eslick Design,
National Association of Legal Secretaries, Explorer Pipeline, Flintco, Philbrook Wine
Experience, Cancer Treatment Centers of Tulsa, Phillips Petroleum, Iron Horse
Development, Boone, Smith, Davis Hurst and Dickman and many others. Ms. Burkhardt
currently is a board member of Nimrod, the literary magazine at the University of Tulsa. She
is also a board member of the University of Tulsa’s Visitors Bureau. Previously, she has been
a member of the Junior League of Tulsa, CASA and Hillcrest Associates.
Ms. Burkhardt attended the University of the South in Sewanee, TN and the
University of Tulsa, where she was a writing major and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree
