I have designed, project managed and built and operated over thirty bars and restaurants internationally either for third parties under contract or for the leisure entertainment companies that I was employed by. I am articulate and able to distill complex problems into simple solutions. I communicate well. I am used to negotiating contracts and securing new business. I have an in-depth understanding of the turn key design build sector and am very familiar with the retail, restaurant and bar industry.
A crucial part of my Business Development role for 12 years has been the valuation and negotiation of property leases and landlord’s incentives throughout North America, Europe and Asia. I have an in depth understanding of restaurant development from site acquisition, business planning, franchise agreements, qualitative and quantitative measurement, construction and fit out, adhering to capital budgets and achievement of deadlines, and a strong technical experience in design and construction fit out management. I was managing director of an interior design firm that specialized in hospitality projects, and I understand the importance of concise operational and design briefs. I also have strong operational experience in branded restaurants and bars at a general management, multi unit and executive level.
I was part of the team responsible for negotiating and introducing Café Tu Tu Tango, Wolfgang Puck and Gordon Biersch restaurants to Canada. I have secured investment partners for restaurants and bars internationally. I identified, negotiated and structured joint venture operations in China and Japan and am used to selling business concepts and product at a C level.
I have traveled extensively internationally creating large mixed-use entertainment projects, from indoor snow domes in Spain and Dubai, to stadia and arena in China, Hong Kong and Japan, to luxury hotels in southern Africa, luxury ecotourism initiatives in Central America and the Caribbean, and family Entertainment centers in China and Japan, as well as restaurants, nightclubs and bars internationally. My core responsibilities have always been in the creation of concepts, feasibility studies, market research, viability reports, project and development management, operational management at an executive level, and as a turnkey design build manager and project management.
I have held board positions in subsidiaries of public companies with responsibility for business development, achieving budgeted revenues, providing significant return on investment and operational profitability. I am financially aware and able to develop construction budgets, income and P & L projections and forecasts, day-to-day analysis, as well as balance sheet understanding. I work well in a team environment and am able to lead from the front, with collaboration and vision as the driving force in all that I do.
