Documentary Film and Video Production
1st&4Ever (2011) 16min, 33sec. A short personal documentary looking at the impact on a generation of black men in Harlem without fathers and their struggle to find father figures. The film asks how do black men prepare for fatherhood when they have not seen any examples around them their entire life. Writer/director, editor, producer and cinematographer.
Cityvisions, Film and Video Showcase Trailer (2011) 2min. Debuted on opening night to introduce the MFA thesis films.

Travel Grant, Dean’s Office of Arts and Science. Grant awarded for travel to Kerala, India to participate in Kathakali Performance training and development of a documentary film. Short documentary film was created entitled ‘Fire Puppet’ based on a small rural village fire festival.

Academic Teaching and Work Experience
ASSISTANT TEACHER, CITY COLLEGE, NEW YORK, NEW YORK –– SPRING 2011
Documentary Workshop II, Assisted Professor Herman Lew, BFA Program Director
This was a senior thesis class in documentary filmmaking and fiction. Students develop, shoot, and edit their documentaries in greater depth exploring unique aesthetic choices to non-fiction storytelling.

Responsibilities Included:
Assisted the professor with demonstrations on camera use, set up and equipment breakdowns. Participated in group critiques and class discussions analyzing all aspects of aesthetics and storytelling. Prepared and taught a class on sound. Met with students individually helping to develop their concepts through more in-depth critiquing. The class culminated in a final screening of their thesis film.

INTERNSHIP, FIRELIGHT MEDIA, NEW YORK, NEW YORK. DIRECTOR AND OWNER: STANLEY NELSON –– FEBRUARY 2011 TO PRESENT
Assisted both Stanley Nelson and Assistant Producer Stacey Holman
Stanley Nelson is an MacArthur Fellow and Emmy award winning documentary filmmaker and producer. His films include ‘The ****** of Emmett Till (2003), A Place of Our Own (2004), Freedom Riders (2011).

Responsibilities Included:
Categorizing and archiving photos and newspaper articles using File Maker Pro software. Created media packages for the production crew. Administrative duties included preparation of forms, licenses, clearances, distribution of petty cash and completed mass copy assignments. Assisted with phoning rental houses and securing equipment. Assisted in-house editor with gathering footage for trailers. Research assignment included gathering and organizing historical information for the owner Stanley Nelson to pitch to Oprah Winfrey for Civil Rights 50th Anniversary.
CINEMATOGRAPHER, MTV 2 SPECIAL “FUNKMASTER FLEX LACED UP”, NEW YORK, NEW YORK –– 2010
Responsibilities Included:
Worked with the producer to stage and captured five interviews with sneaker artists, designers, storeowners and collectors in the Tri-State area. The footage was aired featuring Funkmaster Flex and Fabolous as hosts.
CINEMATOGRAPHER, MTV 3 “TR3S, “THE BEST VIDEOS OF 2010 - A HIP HOP WRAP UP”, NEW YORK, NEW YORK –– 2010
Responsibilities Included:
Worked with the producer along with two other cameramen to record a panel discussion. I set up lights, staged and captured a four-person panel of DJs discussing the latest videos. The panel included DJ Enuff and the Heavy Hitters.

Responsibilities Included:
Worked with the producer on a four-cameraman team capturing footage and operating sound for the stage performance of a number of up and coming young comedians.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, CITY COLLEGE, NEW YORK, NEW YORK –– 2010
Assisted Department Chair. Duties included data entry, maintaining the office, filing and maintaining the storage systems, as well as, faxing, typing, scanning and copying. Directed phone calls to various departments. Greeting faculty, students and members of the community and assisting them with their questions.

THEATRE COSTUME SHOP, HUNTER COLLEGE, NEW YORK, NEW YORK –– 2009
Assisted making costumes, masks and jewelry for the Theater Department productions. Main skills included sewing and costume alterations.

THEATRE SCENE SHOP, HUNTER COLLEGE, NEW YORK, NEW YORK –– 2008
Built and painted scenery. Worked with lighting and other technical areas of the Theater Department Productions. Main skills included set design, use of power tools such as the radial-arm saw and table saw.

Scanned slides into digital format as well as used Photoshop to complete photo retouching. Cataloged images for the database. Prepared slide lectures for art history and studio professors.

Assisted Gallery Director in all aspects of running a nonprofit gallery in the East Village. Assisted in preparing the gallery for exhibitions, hanging shows, sending out invitations, calling artists and running errands. Assisted with jurying process of artists’ work, which included, submissions, organizing artist’s materials, projecting images and returning materials to artists. Assisted with opening reception, gallery sitting and greeting audience members in the community and helping with questions.

Editing: Skilled in Final Cut Pro. Completed a summer intensive program emphasizing the fundamental concepts in fiction and documentary editing. Experienced in transcribing and organizing footage. Camera Work: Mastered the skills of operation in professional video cameras. Cinematography: Mastered all aspects of visual language and pictorial composition for complex shots including lighting, exposure, control, contrast and movement. Lighting: Skilled in 3 point lighting.
